"Greensleeves" in e-minor. It's tabbed out in Mel Bay's Pedal Steel Guitar Method. It' nice and slow and not too complicated.

I purchased both the E9th and C6th books by Buddy Emmons and I'm working through the E9th right now. Buddy's playing is so cool and you totally get that when you see it spread out on paper... his thinking behind the licks is terrific.

| I have been working on the song Champagne on E9, how about Home in San Antone on C6. I'm always working on some Steve Palousek stuff. A song I do by myself is Deep in a Dream arrangement from Jim Cohen, I try to keep on top of, it's easy to forget on c6. |

I recently starting spending some time on "That Rainy Day". Buddy did a beautiful job on it. C6th tuning. That's one you don't just listen to a time or two and then play it.

I've got an extended Leavitt tuning on a T8 and am trying to tab out some standards like Stardust, Moonlight serenade etc. I will share when I finish but they are complex to work out for the correct chord voicings. It slow going but very rewarding. All the chords are there for the finding.
It's a good tuning but I don't know if it will be a permanent fixture on this guitar yet. |

The last song I worked up was Elton John's "Blue Eyes". Buddy Emmons played it on one of the Swingin' albums, and I always liked it but never tried playing it until a few months ago. It was pretty difficult for me, but I don't read music, and I don't use tab.

funny !  About a month or two ago I started going backwards almost to where I was years 15 or 20 years ago, playing those Ray Price/Emmons songs again . It all struck when I acquired another Pro III as well as landing 3 gigs /month where I am required to play Instrumentals...
I have to remind myself that you can't play fast if you can't play slow...

| You didn't mention where your tastes lie, but: "Stormy Monday Blues" Allman-style lays out real sweet on C6th, as does "Every Breathe You Take" by the Police. Nice and easy, but that gives you a chance to work on tone, intonation, even string volume and NOT-even string volume - you can notice with the Allman Brothers they kind of unobtrusively double some lines and notes to give them emphasis. "Every Breathe.." has to have a slight palm mute while playing, it's kind of a semi-palm blocking exercise. |

Great question, Roger.
I'm currently working on Mariano by Robert Earl Keen. The level of difficulty isn't too high - just a few chords, slow tempo - but I've been working on a "composed" solo. It's an editing process really, trying to get just the right notes. I play it on Dobro and at the end of the solo (which is basically the melody with open low G and B strings and a second fret A) I arpeggiate a Bm chord with the top two strings open and bar strings three and four at the eleventh fret. I keep the open first string ringing and then go down to the second fret for A with some pull offs and end on the B on the sixth string. I hope to be playing it at a BBQ this weekend - and nail the solo.
