I liked the steel playing, but I've always thought that the slow, walking rhythm on Django's original recording was a major part of the arrangement. I don't like the rhythm backing you've used. |

I couldn't get these links to open for me. I think they're restricted to Forum8 members. Perhaps you could repost them in the general part of the Forum. |

Yes, Django's "orchestra" recording is quite a bit slower than my demo, but the "Hot Club" recording with Stéphane Grappelli & Django is slightly faster than my demo. That's the one I'm used to hearing. Grappelli was a God IMHO. And Django... he was from another planet!

What rhythm backing?

Andy's links work for me. Make sure you're "signed in" to the Forum.

I was having problems with the Forum, so I rebooted, and this time Andy's links loaded.
By rhythm backing, I was referring to the percussion.
Thanks for including that picture of Django and the Hot Club of France. I copied it to my hard disk. He's always been one of my favorites, too. |

Lovely lead picking, I kept yearning to hear a rhythm and a bass...and yes, maybe some brushes... please consider adding... very pretty, anyway, as is.

Yes, they're all over it, and around it, but not through it. This is more an exercise in guitar dexterity than playing the tune. Simpler is better. |

I'm working on a version on C6 tunning. I noticed that your recording and Andys tab are in the key of F, while the Django recording is in the key of G. Is that a result of the B11 or the A6 that Andy uses, or is F the key everyone just plays it in. I even saw a finger style arangement for regular guitar in the key of F.

The song is written in the key of G in The Real Book, and in other books I've seen over the years. I don't know how many versions of Nuages Django recorded, but I have two of them: his slower "orchestra" version is in the key of F. The "Hot Club" recording with Grappelli is in G. In the F version the melody is played on clarinet, is slower and more clearly defined than in the Hot Club recording IMHO. So I listened to that one and learned it in F, and doubled checked it with the written music in G.
I like F better than G (on B11) because the 9th chord in the opening line is on fret 2 instead of fret 4. Lower sounds better for that, in my opinion. The chords have more 'growl' in the lower positions. _________________ My Site / My YouTube Channel

Again, Doug; that sounds great to me! Try as I may, for many years; I just can't quite seem to bring out that Hawaiian~Flavor (timbre) in my playing! But, you have inspired me to spend a lot more time exploring the B11-Tuning. I plan to start on that in the morning! _________________ <marquee> Go~Daddy~Go, (No), Go, It's your Break Time</marquee> L8R, jb
