The steel player on Jimmy Dickens record of "Just A Closer Walk With Thee"..........sounds a lot like our JERRY BYRD....but I'm reasonably certain it is NOT JERRY BYRD.
"WEDDING BELL WALTZ" also has some great TONE and some little thingies that were a practice of JERRY BYRD. Doesn't sound like Billy Robinson but Don Davis, maybe?
Anyone with factual information about this recording session?

Here's another one from that era........"HOT DIGGITY DOG"........ Some great TONE.......and Jerry Byrd type doo-dads but with the hammer-ons, I sense it just might be olde BUDDY EMMONS. Kinda sounds like an Emmons g'tar if'n you turn your head jes' right.
Anyone know fer sure? |

Hi Ray,
Acc. to the session info in the Bear Family Box Set, Gordon Flynn is playing on "Hot Diggity Dog" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee". "Wedding Bell Waltz" list the steel player as unidentified.

Thanks Walter!
WHO is Gordon Flynn? Never heard of him before but being on the left coast, that's not unusual. He was quite a picker, at least on that record. |

Hi Ray,
Sorry, I can only provide the name, I have to admit that I haven't heard about Gordon Flynn before, too. Maybe someone can jump in and has some more details...?
Kind Regards, Walter _________________ www.lloydgreentribute.com |
