Hi all, I'm finally gonna realize a dream. For over 30 years I've dreamed of going to Nashville and come September 5th for six nights I'm there with my wife (can't wait!). Question is where to go and WHO will be there with regards to steel players/bands, Then it's off to Las Vegas (any more steel players/bands/stores in the vegas area?).
Any help and advise would be greatly appreciated, we are staying in the Gaylord Opryland hotel, is this good? Best wishes, Dave. UK.

(1) You must come hear The Time Jumpers at the Station Inn on Monday Sept 10th. They are 11 of Nashville's A-Team session players, and gig every Monday out of the love of playing together & Western Swing. I never cease to be amazed at John Hughey, as a man and his talent. The best $10 admission you'll every spend.
(2) I also know that John Hughey gigs at Legends Corner (in the heart of downtown) on Wednesdays, from 7 to 10 PM. So, hopefully you will arrive on Sept 5 early enough to go downtown & hear John with his country band.
(3) The Opryland Hotel is "a city within a city", about 12 miles from downtown Nashville. The rooms are adequate but the atria themselves are where the emphasis has been placed. I think it is the largest hotel east of the Mississippi. Good choice.
(4) Pick up a copy of the Nashville Scene (comes out each Wednesday & is free). It will have a pretty good listing of clubs/acts/times, etc.

Have a great stay & welcome to middle Tennessee !

Hi Dave. Boy, if you could have made your reservations to come the USA just a few days earlier you could have attended the International Steel Guitar Convention. Between the players that will be playing in the main ballroom and the various distributors rooms you could have heard somewhere close to 75 steel guitar players. I wish I could take off and go to Nashville and show you around but September 5th is still when we are super busy unpacking and setting Scotty's Music back up from the Conventon. I know you will enjoy your trip to Nashville. Scotty

Dave, you really need to check out Bobbe Seymour's shop in Hendersonville. Joe already posted a link to his website, but the shop is great to just hang out, Bobbe and Dan are great to talk to, and you never know who might drop in. I saw Smiley Roberts there about a month ago.

Also, you might want to visit Nashville Cowboy Church (at the Ernest Tubb Theatre next to the E.T. record shop by Opryland Hotel) and catch Duane Marrs playing steel. He's a great player and one of the good guys. Church isn't bad, either. Smile

Thank guys for all you help and advise and maybe meet some of you?. Hi Scotty, yes I would have loved to have been at the ISGA, but work commitments would not allow me to have my holiday any earlier, sorry. We will be staying at the Gaylord Opryland hotel for 6 nights from 5th Sept.
Best wishes, Dave. PS, if any one is interested, the photo is me with my "Sheffield" steel that I designed and built, it has only 1-2 cents MAX deflection on a D10, 9 + 8, George L TW E9th & PF1 C6th.

If memory serves me correctly, Mike Sweeney gigs at (1) The Wheel each Wednesday from 10 PM to 2 AM, (2) The Stage each Saturday, from 2 - 6 PM & (3) The Wheel each Saturday from 6 - 10 PM. Both of these venues are on lower Broadway, between 4th & 5th ... a stone's throw from the Ryman auditorium.

Robert knows my schedule better than I do. Also we're starting back at the Hotel Preston next monday night after 6 weeks off due to remodeling.
But I do work with Monte Good at the Wheel on wed. nights 10 - 2 and sat. 6 - 10 except this week and next week [ I agreed to sub the Long Hollow Jamboree for Cookie before we went to sat. nights at the wheel. And I play the Stage on Sat. 2 -6 with Jason Wagner. And you never know what else will turn up. Just email before you come and I'll give you the low down.
Mike

Dave,
You can hear Cowboy Eddie Long at the Nashville Palace Tue.- Thursday night. Free Admission and the Palace serves some wonderful food at a reasonable price. He plays from 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. and it some of the best picking I've ever heard.

I am partial though,

Dan Burnham (BMI)
