One lick that I have never been able to get is the chime parts on the end of the intro on Half A Mind. Can somebody tell me what frets and strings are being used to get the sound on the original cut. This is probably so simple but it's one I can't seem to nail. Thanks.

I does sound "simple" with the Big E doing it.

I think the chime lick is in the old Sho-Bud lick album that Neil Flanz did years ago (that was my "Bible" when I was starting on the pedal steel). Maybe not in the Key of A but I think it's on there.

How do you chime these?

Palm, knuckle, knuckle?

I am working on these and that what seems the easiest to me.

Thoughts?

M.

I guess I'll have to get one of the big boys to show me this lick sometime. I still hadn't been able to get it right.

When Buddy cut this in 58, he only had 8 strings [no high G# & no chromatics on top] so todays 456 strings were then the first 3 strings! I learned it in 58 & still play it.

Emmons did the original session with E.T. Buddy Charleton came on later. Not sure if Charleton came on right after Emmons or if there were other Steelers between Emmons and Charleton.

Have any of you heard Terry Bethel's intro for the key of G? Think he starts on the first fret strings 2,3, and 6 Mash B to C# pedal as you play each fret. a most unique sound on the PSG and fun to expriment with. TJH
