Does anyone have a picture of the undercarriage of a loaded (8X7 or 8X8) EMCI you could send me. I am trying to add a LKL C-6 lever to an 8X6 guitar and am not sure where the cross shaft should go.
thanks so much,

Sorry, I can't supply any pics, Trap. Being that it's a left moving knee lever, I would think the lever could be attached directly to the cross-shaft. Won't a C6th lever for a D10 be somewhere around the middle of the guitar?
Maybe a little more detail about what and where this lever is to be placed would help.
If the desired position of the lever does not coincide with the position of a free cross-shaft, then an interconnecting linkage would have to be used. _________________ Best regards,

Iam going to try and post a picture.I have half way taken the guitar apart. The logical hole for the cross shaft is being blocked by the E9th LKR bracket. Might need a "through" bracket for the E9th LKR but parts are hard to find for these guitars. |

It looks like it would go into the hole (white bushing) after the 6th cross shaft from the keyhead end but the LKR knee is in the way. Any Ideas?? |

Trap, yeah, I see the position and it is blocked. If you could mount a left-going knee lever to a bracket of some kind that would allow some kind of pull finger and pull rod to be attached to it, (you might have to make this) you could put the new cross-shaft between the 12th and 13th existing cross-shafts with one of those single hole pull fingers (like is on cross-shaft 2) mounted on it. Then attach an interconnecting pull rod between the knee lever bracket and the new shaft's single hole pull finger. With the knee linked to the new shaft this way, the knee lever can be positioned where you like it, since it's position is independent of the shaft location.
It's the same idea as the LKR lever mechanism...a remote shaft being turned by a knee lever via some linkage and an interconnecting rod.
The difference is that when this new LKL is pushed to the left, it would directly pull the single hole puller finger to the left also, thus turning the new shaft via the new interconnecting pull rod as if the knee lever were actually connected to the shaft.
That would get you your LKL lever wherever you want it, even though there is no available shaft for it at that particular position.
I sure hope that made sense. It's pretty hard to explain in words...I could sketch it in a few seconds. _________________ Best regards,

Just had another thought. Have you tried calling Carter? Their web site says they won't sell parts to non-Carter owners, but they might make an exception since Bud had a hand in designing the EMCI. _________________ Best regards,

Mike, thanks for your response. I like your idea.Iam going to first try the cross rod in the first open hole to the right and see how it works. I am afraid it will be too far away though. I was hoping for a picture of someones guitar to see how it was done.I might could rearrange a couple of things if need be.
I am not sure Carter would help.
thanks again,

Ok, good thought, Trap. That can work also. The same mechanics I described could also push the single hole finger on a shaft to the right. The changer pull rods will be longer, but that's OK.
BTW, I've got an MCI U12 coming that's gonna need a bunch of work, but nothing's damaged...just totally messed up mechanically, and nasty dirty.
I'll be doing some stuff like we're discussing here, also. This has been a good mental excercise.
Good luck. _________________ Best regards,

I've got a D-10 EMCI I've just finished doing some rearranging on. I've got the RKL & RKR both operating on the C6th neck. Just curious, what are your KL'ers doing on the backneck? |

Billy from what I can see from the pics, Trap has only one knee on the back neck on shaft 10 (counting from the right side of the pic)...a single string pull. Can't tell which string it is, though. _________________ Best regards,

Hey guys,
I was in the process of removing some things when I took these pictures. On the C6, I had (will have hopefully) RNR raising the 3rd string 1/2, LKR raising 4&8 1/2, and the new lever, LKL, lowering the 5th a whole tone. |

Trap, if you don't have room for the new cross rod, and
don't want to put them on the E-9 levers, I can send
you a couple of short shafts that you can mount using ""L" brackets, and mount the lever and stop and bell cranks to it.

Trap, See if this helps. This is Bruce Bouton's old EMCI to which I added levers to get it up to 8+9. It's got the original, prototype BL 710 pickups matched specifically for this guitar.
It ain't pretty, but the tone is to die for. . . .
