My friend and steel mentor Jody Cameron is starting a Texas Steel Guitar School in Lake Jackson, Texas on July 9th thru the 12th, 2007. The 1st class will be centralized around the beginner/intermediate levels. He has a new website out: www.jodycameronmusic.com

His website is still under construction, more info will be posted soon.

The price is: $1200 (including room and board)

It will be 4 full days of steel guitar! Room and Board is included in the price, and each night he will be trying to take the class out to see live steel playing.

I have been a student of his since January 2007 and I must say he is an excellent teacher (also to mention an excellent picker!) and has an overwhelming passion for the steel guitar. He breaks down all aspects of a subject to where a beginner/intermediate person can comprehend the lesson and not feel overwhelmed and discouraged. I feel that anyone who has the chance to attend this school, will enhance their playing and overall knowlege of the Pedal Steel Guitar and its theory, and the most important is, having fun playing!

The items listed below are some of the items in the class curriculum:

Tone Enhancement

Proper picking technique

Chimes

Play With The Singer

Warm Up Exercise with A Purpose

Rapid Picking Exercise

Proper pedal and lever usage

Proper string replacement

Chord Inversion fret board location

Major Chords, Minor Chords, 7ths,

9ths and 13ths

1 chord to 4 chord progression or 5 to 1

Chord progressions in general

Improvise (Playing when you do have a clue)

Understanding Music Theory

What a cool deal...One of the top Texas steel pickers, not to mention a stand up guy...I wish I could afford the time off to go....This is a chance to learn from a guy who can really play with great versatility. Jody is a treat to listen to as he can play old style steel with the best of them, yet; he has a "young country" flare to his picking that really makes him a versatile picker. From Ray Price to Zona Jones's Texas country, he can play it all and play it well....James

Thanks guys! I appreciate your support in this idea. I've been teaching one-on-one for a while now, and I'm finding that I really like it. I've been talking to quite a few folks who are just getting started on this great instrument, so I thought a class for new players might be a help.
This class will be for beginners.

I've got a couple of students confirmed for July, but I need a couple more to make it happen.

Smile Thanks again, JC

This is a great idea Jody! I just wish I could do it this round. Getting time off this time of year would be hard. Any new players out there will advance your playing greatly by attending this school. I have been going to the Katy Jams for almost a year and the teaching session has helped me. Due to time limits we keep it short but always good stuff to think about and try.

Just think 4 days of Jody giving you personalize instruction. Man the would be great.

Hello boss, I think I have steelers sickness. Doctor said it'll be ok in about 4 days. Yes that Doc Bowman he's the best Doc around for this steeler sickness.

Jody Cameron is a very exceptional talent. When I introduced him to the steel guitar, he had his right hand blocking down the first day. His progress from that day was phenominal. Hopefully, you beginners out there will take advantage of this offer, as Jody has the knowledge and capability to teach you to play without picking up any bad habits. He has studied under Jeff Newman and Buddy Emmons, so he is well qualified to teach. My best to you JC. JB.

I can second Bro. Sanders' comments. Any time and money spent with Jody Cameron will be both well spent. A man of character and an exceptional player.

Peace and harmony, brethren. Smile

Wow, this is a great opportunity for any steel enthusiast considering learning the steel guitar or steel student within driving radius of SE Texas……beginners who want to start off on the right foot and intermediate level players who want to expand their knowledge or perhaps improve their technique. Jody’s class will save you months if not years in your learning process. I can only wish I had an instructor of Jody’s caliber when I started out.

I have had the good fortune to play bass behind JC many times and what a treat it was! This man is the real deal my friends. If you have the time and the desire to increase your playing skills do not let this pass you by, you will not regret it.

Best of success on your Steel Guitar School JC and I’m really looking forward to your new CD release……along with the tab and rhythm tracs. Keep us posted on this JC as I’m am reserving my copy right now! Your buddy, Russ

Thanks so much to all of you guys! If I can get 4 students I will do the school, if not, then I will not be able to...so we'll see what happens!

Thanks to all who have viewed my new website as well. I'm working on a new CD for next year's Dallas jamboree also. I will have pics of the sessions up on the site after we are done in the studio. We are going in on May 28th to begin recording.

Special thanks to Waymon Moore for all his help on the school and CD project.

Smile JC

A super talented player with great ideas and teaching knowledge, what a combination for beginners and even advanced players. If you can be there,be there. You will never regret this chance, not too just learn what he will show at school but how later on you will be able to think on your feet,(in our case, think on your seat)Best of luck my friend.

Congrats Bro. Jody on getting a beginners school organizzed. I hope that you get the other two students that you need. I also hope that this will get so popular that you will put on other schools on a regular basis...then you could become the "Jeff Newman" of Texas HA! I just wished that I lived in your neck of the woods. I would give my eye teeth to take part in such a great class.

Alos I want to wish you the best of lluck on you upcoming CD as I know that it will be a show stopper! Save me a copy of it.

God's Peace Bother, Very Happy

Gregg

You beginners still have time to sign up for this school. This is a great chance to learn the proper way to play. Right hand, left hand, two knees, and two feet co-ordination. Jody.
