| Can someone please explain the differance between a Session 400 Limited and Session 400 LTD and a plain old Session 400 ? |

They are all in the Peavey line of steel guitar amps. All had 15" speakers and were single unit amps, (not piggy back style.)

The difference: The Session 400 was a large cabinet amp.
Session 400 LTD is basically the same amp in a smaller/narrower package.
The Session 400 Limited was, I think, meant to be a replacement for the original Session 400 that had been discontinued.

All 3 are great amps,still have my session 400 limited,BUT she's a hernia maker,she has'nt been out of the house since I got my NV-112.

Everything got confusing when in the early '80s when Peavey introduced the "Session 400 Limited" amp.
To keep things simple, I like to refer to the classic amps as the Session 400 and the smaller counterpart as the LTD 400 or simply the LTD for short.
Then came the more modern, opamp based model named the "Session 400 LIMITED" which was a pretty different animal, and generally less favored sonically than its all discrete transistor predicessors. Although having perused the circuit of this Session 400 Limited, it appears to be sort of a crossover from the old Session 400 into the modern circuit of the Nashville 400 or Session 500 or Vegas. The EQ, although opamp based, is still more of the passive, cut-only midrange design like the older amps. This tells me that a Session 400 Limited treated with a good cap and Burr Brown 2604 opamp upgrade could really become a stellar sounding amp. But in my experience, the stock Session 400 Limited suffers pretty badly from that congested, veiled, and nasally sound. Hey Ken (Fox), have you ever done one of your intense mods to this amp?

| The old Session 400 is a great amp. I have had two of them, and both sounded warm, open, very musical. I had an Evans FET 500, and while the Session 400 sounded different than the Evans, it had the same warm and natural tonal quality. Before that I had a couple of Nashville 400's, and, IMHO, the old Session has a nicer tone, although it's heavy and doesn't have an effects loop. It has a nice tremolo, though! |

Brad nailed it. There never was a Session 400 LTD...it was just the LTD 400. Lots of confusion over that detail because of the abbreviation of "Limited" being "ltd". The LTD 400, though, is a great amp, like the Session 400, but with a slightly narrower cab.
