Photos? Description?
With what you've said so far, somewhere between $100 and $1000.

Sonny;
The Gibson Consolette and the Gibson Console Grand(e). The Grand(e) being ‘top-of-the-line’!

I was following D-8 Console Grandes on Ebay for a few months. I'm not sure if you are talking about a Console Grande. Typically $700 to $1100 there. Some sellers had higher reserves but did not sell. There is D-8 on ebay now with a buy it now price of $999 or best offer, so that may give you a idea. As will all condition is the over-riding factor. I think if you are buying, there are some fair deals now, one only can guess when the market for these could change. There was a thread on the forum several years ago with the opinion of $1000 OK for a good one, so suggests prices somewhat flat compared to Fenders. |

The steel pictured is the Console C530, introduced in 1956 replacing the Consolette. Hardware and pickups (8 pole P90's) are very similar, but the Consolette was made of Korina (one big slab!), whereas the C530 is maple laminate (on mahogany, I believe). Anyway, I own two Consolettes and a 1956 Console Grande. The CG is considerably more sophisticated in its construction and electronics (and tones), but the Consolettes are fun to play and sound quite good. I would imagine that the C530 would sound and play quite similar.
As to value, the maple C530 should go for $500 to $1000 in excellent condition. I'm not sure people are lining up to buy these (yet), but they are quite good utility instruments. |
