That video made me feel old...but apparently not as old as Marlin,(or maybe as young) because rather than use his name, he addressed him in his post as "the lead singer." LOL
I think that first Manassas album came out when I was a senior in high school, and I thought Stephen Stills was a MUCH older guy than I was in those days - now in this video he looks like a kid to me.
How about that 'fro on Hillman?
It must have been an all day project for Al Perkins back in the day to wash his hair! That stuff was THICK.

That's the kind of music that made me want to play the steel, that and Jerry Garcia's most enthusiastic playing. I still think that the old hippies did country with more feeling than just about anybody except for George Jones and Buck Owens.
I wonder if Al wants to sell his ZB. Thanks for sharing Brendan. Dallas Taylor looked great on drums. God, they all looked so young.

Lee, I believe that it is a D-11, at least that's the way I counted it with my rapidly aging one blue and one brown eyes. It may have been a D-11/10, though. I never got a good look at the C6 neck. And hows about the sound of that Country Gentleman that Stephen is playing. I haven't played one since about 1975. Man, that thing sounds fantastic. I love hearing a great sad country song that basically doesn't care about "the rules" on how a great sad country song is played..

I saw Manassas in about '73 at Memorial Hall in downtown Sack o' tomato. And in the 50's Hiway 50 ran through P-ville, and they had a dummie strung up on main. Were you around then? If so, you're a drooling old geezer.

Duncan, as someone mentioned, that's a White Falcon...not Country Gentleman. Close, but a few differences.
But all those old Gretsches put out a big "chunk" like nothing else! My first "good" guitar was a Tennessean...wish I'd never sold it. |

I rarely get to see a live steel player, so I'm visually impaired about steel playing, but am I right that he is using palm blocking almost exclusively?
