What CD's should I look for to hear Joaquin Murphey's solos? I can download, too... is there a compilation CD? I have "Murph", but I'm looking for the old, hot stuff.

I would think you'd likely find it not on a pre-existing CD but rather, on those many old singles that he made as a steel player sideman as opposed to his SOLO instrumental work. Smokey Rogers, Tex Williams, Ozzie Waters, Spade Cooley and the like. Huhmmmm?

You can start here--just go to the link that says "Cool Sounds" at the top of the page.

David- most of the solos I transcribed for the Joaquin book I did with Andy Volk (see For Sale: Music, Lessons) are from 2 CDs and Herb Steiner's site:

Spadella! The Essential Spade Cooley (SONY)
Tex Williams On The Air (Country Routes)
http://www.herbsteiner.com

I will be adding an mp3 to my site of a Joaquin feature from a Spade Cooley TV show transcription of "I Can't Give You Anything But Love"- great stuff!

I've plugged this cd few times before; Spade Cooley & his Western Dance Gang-Radio Broadcasts on Country Routes-label. In No means the most famous or the mos legendary recordings, but 22 tracks and each features lengthy solos by Murph. Equally good is the Tex Williams-On The Air by the same label.
