Very reluctantly..and I mean very reluctantly...
here are 2 sound clips from Buddy Live in Meridan Ct. , June 1977 playing the Blade . This was the most incredible Steel show I have ever witnessed..and attended.
I sent Buddy a copy of this show and when I saw him in St Louis in '02 his comment was that it was the old songs..
Well Geeze Louise Buddy...if thats the case I say bring 'em all back !
Please do not ask me for any copies of this CD or for anymore posts as I will not post anymore without Buddy's permission.
And..should I be requested to remove them I will promptly comply.
I am reluctant to post these but this show had such a dramatic impact on my musical journey during the 27 years that followed ( still does ) that I just can't help myself !
If anyone was to ask me what one event or incident had the most impact on my musical journey..folks this was it..27 years later I am still in awe..
And this includes seeing the Rolling Stones , Cream and the Beatles when they first came to the USA !!( Hendrix too)
Thanks Buddy...although you don't remember me..I was 6 feet in front of you during this entire show produced by long lost friend Harry Guffee..The local band also featured 3 of the hottest Tele' players in the NY /CT area..and I don't mean semi hot..I am talkin' stride for stride with Buddy...
I will not name the clips..you gotta be creative in your listening here..

Buddy 1 This one still sends a chill up my spine everytime I listen to it..This solo followed 2 of the most blistering Chickin' Pickin' Tele' solo's known to mankind..
Buddy 2 The ultimate C6th warrior..I say bring it on Buddy !

Tony,
Nothing Buddy does ever gets old...And I got his SG Jazz album when it was released,even with his dissatisfaction(not mine) with the tone on that prodject,it is still the benchmark(jmho)

You are correct Tony,
There is no session I have ever heard, that is better than that one. Truly the best ever. If you don't have this 2 record album set of ISGC '77, your collection is not complete.
Buddy was the best I have EVER heard him. And the entire band was exemplary. I will always believe the audience was left spellbound like at no time before, or since.
As you say, Buddy is always great, but this was truly IMO, the creme' de la creme'. It was the time Buddy Introduced the ebow on "Mansion on the Hill" and "Once Upon a Time in the West" along with some jazz runs that are the best I have ever heard him do.
There was one long jazz run, that caused the audience to break out into a spontaneous applause; that apparently caused Buddy to turn on his "after-burners; that upstaged what caused the applause in the first place. Proving once again what Mac Atcheson said many times,
"Buddy always has ONE more note, if he needs it". No truer words were ever spoken. Or as Garland Nash once said, "He never paints himself into a corner".
The tone he got that night was to die for. And it was never brought out more beautifully than on "Once upon....West". How Buddy was able to capture that perfect rendition of the "Theme song" in that incredible movie is beyond me. But I sat right there and watched him do it, along with everyone else.
Again, if you do not have this album set, do yourself a favor and get it. I believe Scotty still has it. Give him a call.

Carl for sure the ISGC set is out on a planet all by itself....but do keep in mind that these clips are from 2 months previous to the ISGC....(June 77) maybe Buddy was testing the "SOUL"..as he certainly captured mine..it's a thrill minute captured on tape....which lasts a lifetime...
I dunno' if Buddy kept any notes in reserve that afternoon in Meridan Ct..but I can tell ya this..there's no way we would have ever come to that conclusion !

Tony,
One of the Tele players must have been Ray Gantek. Who were the other two? I miss Harry also, he was like "The Music Man" of steel guitar in Connecticut.

No actually Ray was at the show as an attendee..
The players were Gary Hayes, John Keys and forum member Bruce Derr..
But..Ray is one fine player for sure..

Tony, thanks so much for these. Like many others I'd give a lot to hear the rest of that show! It was Buddy's amazing "Wichita Lineman" on the Suite Steel LP that got me into PSG in '76. I saw him in Michigan on the same club tour in '77, (sitting directly in front of his guitar), and although the band was not as grooving as the one on your clips, he managed to completely turn my head inside out. I was fortunate enough to be at the '77 ISGC show as well (Carl, that's me for sure you can hear hollering after "Once Upon...", well me and a thousand other Buddy freaks!) There was something extra about the transcendance of that show, the beauty of that many folks getting to hear a true Master at the top of his game, and feeding that marvelous energy back into his performance. We are indeed fortunate that it was captured on tape for posterity.
Thanks so much Buddy, for all of the Magic. I hope you get to see through all of these posts the vast numbers of people you've touched, and moved. There's no greater accolade!

Conclusion...Buddy is not human! He is from a different planet! Did any body check to see how many arms and legs he has? Probably moves so fast you can't count 'em! What keeps the strings from melting with friction?
