Hi Folks... Bobby Lucier has been a leader in
steel guitar and is world renowned for his unique style and ability.Bob was the resident Steel Player for "The Tommy Hunter Show" when it aired on the CBC television network in Canada for many years.Bobby in releasing a new CD called "Bob Lucier - Eleven Favorites". Engineered & Mixed by: Doug Deveaux, Sideman Studios Oshawa, Ontario
Mastered by: George Graves The Lacquer Channel - Custom Graphics & CD’s by: Ambassador Records Oshawa, Ontario. It is highlight in my career to have the oppertunity to do Bobbys graphics on this amazing CD. This CD once again reflects Bob's
amazing ability and versatility as a steel guitar player. Each song has an arrangement that only Bob can do. His tones on this album are full and rich and each song comes alive when you listen to it. In Bob's own words he says that "this is the finest work I've ever done". Songs on this CD are: 1. Pick Me Up (On Your Way Down) 2. Fraulein 3. Workin’ Man Blues 4. I Fall To Pieces 5. Fool Such As I 6. Magnum Bob Lucier, SOCAN (2:25)7. Pass Me By 8. Blues For Felix 9. Alright I’ll Sign The Papers 10. My Special Angel 11. Lonesome 77203 as recorded on the Northern Steel Album. The linner notes was don'e by Gordie Tapp (Well known from the HEE HAW show)I have started a web page for Bobby with more information on it. This CD is amazing and will be released on March 24th 2002. If you would like to order a copy of this CD you can e-mail bob at mailto:boblucier@worldchat.com

His "Lonesome 77..." sold me on that prior album. Did he cut with the Fulawka on the new project? |

I'll Take a "Thousand" of'um.
Wow; I can't hardly wait......I rarely listen to any music anymore(clogs the brain)......but Bob has a new Project....well count me in and I will listen and listen and never stop. Bob was a big time Sho~Bud player......until he got is Fulawka some time ago......and of course he carries on the great sounding tradition of the Sho~bud> with the Fulawka(as there is no other steel guitar on earth that can carry on that tradition; except an Ed Fulawka steel guitar).
I cannot wait to hear this as Bob is an extrodinary player; and to think I will soon own the same brand Steel guitar that Bob Lucier "chooses" to play........yeeee haaaa.

Yes, he did the project with his Fulawka.
Ricky:
Will be sending you a copy of the CD within the next couple of weeks. Paul is doing the graphics on it and as soon as they are done I will have one for ya. Bob wants them for his next gig on March 24th. Also, I am sending one to our good friend in Nashville, the one I got the letter from.

Hi Ricky & Graham. Bob had mentioned that he might be at Scotty's Convention this year. He also said that when he received his new Fulawka, it had given him renewed inspiration and it was the finest steel he had ever had. (Bob and I picked our new steels on the the same day.) His new CD, I must say, is amazing. Every song is as good as Lonesome 77203 and he wrote a song called Magnum.. It may take some time to tab this one.. (Ricky) You will notice that Bob uses a lot of three sting harmony rather than just two strings. This makes his playing different than most.. It is a full and rich sound. I will be putting sound bytes on his page of the other songs for pickers to listen to.. Also there are sound tracks available on his CD. Thanks guys for your comments.. I do hope all Bob's friends will drop in and say Hi. Paul Evans |

Playing a wood neck guitar? With a "full and rich" sound? Wow! Doesn't he know thin is in? |

Bob was one of my mentors when I started playing steel in the early 70's. He always had time for me and gave good advice. He also co-owned a bitchin' steel/music store in those days. Best of luck, Bob. |

I agree! This CD is a must. Bob Lucier is playing better than ever. Bob and his long time friend Mel Aucoin (who plays piano on the session) have produced a great recording. The back up band did a outstanding job playing some very nice arrangements. Regards Bob |

Very happy to see this project complete. It's a must for everyone. Bob has always been an innovator and someone I have looked up to my entire playing career. Still do. He has his favourite players but he always has his sound intact. This CD will challenge you trying to figure out what he is doing. Not to mention provide many hours of pure steel entertainment. All my best Bobby, see you soon.

Bob is a true innovator when it comes to playing steel.Always very original.I admire his country playing especially-something that I never could quite get the hang of.Back when Bobby was a ShoBud dealer,he was able to talk Shot into building me a D12.Even though they weren't set up to do that.I still play the same guitar. There is nothing more fun than hangin' out with Bobby & Mel and listen to them tell stories of people and events in their lives.I can't wait to get my copy.Best of luck with it,Guys. |

Rusty,
A D-12?! No wonder your sound is so big. Many thanks to you (and Bob Lucier) for reminding us that there is more to pedal steel tone than thin and thinner.

Rusty... Did I hear you say that you never could quite get the hang of Country playing? Well you sure have had a lot of us fooled.. Your playing is amazing and when it comes to Texas Swing, I look at you. You are amazing and You, Al Brisco, Bob Lucier, Doug Johnson, Bob Taillefer along with other pickers have made country music what it is today. Let us not forget Ollie Strong, Tommy St.Dennis and Steve Smith (just to mention a few). All great players! Rusty, we are looking forward to you being at the Classic Country Music Reunion this year on Friday night with Tom Mark, Bill Lintner, Johnny Meydam.
Jeff! Are we related? Thanks for you postings.
Bobby Lucier is reading the posts. He is new to the computer and is just finding his way around the Forum, so, he may not respond immediately. He is thrilled with the comments and would like to thank everyone for the kind words.
Feel free to email Bob, he would like to hear from you.
Thanks,
Paul Evans |

Well, if Bob is reading these I'll add my two cents. His playing was a huge inspiration to virtually every Canadian sleel player. We all used to watch the Hunter show just to catch Bob's action in the "live" segment.
I got my first professional calibre steel from Southdown music - a Sho Bud LDG that had been set up by Bob - he did a great job making those things work smooth as silk.
I could stand corrected, but I think Bob spent some time in Bill Anderson's band. In fact, in an old and veery "b" movie (with apologies to anyone who thought it was a good movie) called "The Road to Nashville" I think Bob made a cameo appearance with Anderson's band. |

Paul, I just wanted to say that I've always been a big fan of Bob Lucier and used to love sitting and listening to him play for hours at the Drake hotel (hope I didn't say a dirty word) in Toronto when I was working out of there many years ago. All the best to you Bob. You're one fine musician! Rusty, you're no slouch either! [This message was edited by Neil Flanz on 14 March 2002 at 11:17 PM.] |

Bob Lucier's playing is great. He has a unigue, distinctive tone and wonderful interpretation of a song. I'm still trying to figure out his solo "Mrs. Robinson" from the old 'Join Us At the Caribou (Harry Hibbs)album 30+ years ago!! As a kid, raised in Winnipeg, Canada, I'd sit by the hour with the old record player wearing out that record trying to sound like Bob...unfortunately, no luck!! Then in 1999 you played a killer instrumental --"Lonesome 77203" on Northern Steel that was sooooo excellent...oh yes, now I'm wearing out my CD player trying to sound and play like Bob...unfortunatey, still no luck! (I think I found what key you're playin it in! HA)I have two other instrumental LPs' of Bob's playing and I can hardly wait to purchase your new CD. Keep recording that great steel guitar music Bob...you're one of the best ever. Bill Simmons, Ft. Worth, TX
