I'm not very good at stuff like that ...

Rick,

thanks for the efforts. I should have explained. I've got the tune but your first reply's the one ... the vocal's sort of murky ... pleasant to listen to but a bit unintelligible.

My wife and I have started playing the tune at our gigs but the vocals are now calling.

I figured you did ...

I put it up ... in the hopes that some of the more "Sonically Advanced" amoung us ... may be able to figure it out.

I tried the internet "Lyrics" sites ... but came up with "el zippo" ...

I have faith in the forum ...

Just make 'em up. They're only lyrics... The most important thing is getting your bar slants right.

Here ya go, this took me 2 minutes to compose... Hawaiian Hapa Haole tunes are frequently picture postcards. Just describe the picture and make it rhyme. Moon, June, spoon.

----------------------------
South sea lullabies
Seem to harmonize
With the moonlit night
And the stars so bright
Cast a soft pale light
Upon the island

South sea lullabies
Seem to emphasize
Golden moonlight beams
Magic starlight gleams
Casting hopes and dreams
Upon the island

----------------------------

Or you can go the Bob Dylan route...
"The bald headed dwarf with the bowtie walks along the waterfront...."

What I've worked out is:

South Sea Lullaby(ies)
Seem to come alive
Where the sound of night
Where the ...... daylight
.... .... pleasant (sight?)
Upon the island

South Sea Lullaby(ies)
Seem to {empathise?)
Singing of the breeze
{of?} the moonlit seas
..... the (air?)that (breaths?)
Upon the island

I boosted the highs and attenuated the lows as a simple "murk filter". Maybe better ears and more refined filtering.

Rats! Now you've got me hooked, too. I used the Win-D'ohs media player and left only the 2K-16K Hz faders up. It clears things up considerably, but wow, that's tough.

Gerald's version is great, and he's right about the role of the lyrics. Good lesson for those of us who drive ourselves crazy writing them.

But, since I just spent my lunch hour listening to "South Sea Islands"...

>The 1st verse is:
...seem to harmonize
with{where} the sound of night.

>The next line could be anything...
Where the clouds' gay light?
Wears the soft daylight?
Weary troglodytes!?

>"And it's pleasant sight" seems certain.

>The 2nd verse:
South Sea Lullaby(ies)
Seem to emphasize
Singing of the breeze
Songs of moonlit seas

and then I swear they say "fair" not "air" in the next line, but... why?

Anyway, make it up and sell with gusto!

And you may as well pack some subliminal messages in there while you're at it. Who knows how many records you could sell with a neurolinguistic programmer in the band.
