What would the difference of tonal qualities be between a 17,500 single coil(like a True Tone) and the E66 (17,500)? I understand the hum etc.
How does the PF-1 stack up for tone over the 17,500 single or E66...some friends mentioned they like the 'fuller sound' of the PF-1 over the E66...thanks for your help. |

Bill, before i ordered my Rains i was trying to decide what pickup would be the rite one for the type of music that we play, wich extends from tradional country to southern rock, i realy don't know much about pickups other than what sounds good to my ears, so i had to ask some one who i felt could give me good advice, so i called Jerry Wallace of TT pickups and he said a good middle of the road PU is an 18.5 ohms
in most cases, then i called Mr. Franklin and asked him what he thought about the PF-1 and PF-2 and said if you don't have a lot of effects before the amp the PF-2 would do a good job, but if you had effects before the amp then the PF-1 would work better for me, so i went with the PF-1 and i feel it has just what i was looking for. I guess there's a lot to consider when buying a PU.
AS for the the E66 it has stainless steel blades which gives it the brighter sound compared to other nickel blades that are wound to 17.5
Happy New Year

The "DC" (Direct current) resistance cannont be used as a comparison between two different pickups. The DC resistance only measures the total resistance of the wire - nothing else. Only, if everything else is identical - the same magnets, same brand/type of wire, the identical winding of the wire, etc can the DC resistance even give you an approximate comparison.
If two different pickups wound to the same DC resistance give you the same response it's totally by accident.
Enter the Lawrence pickups. They are designed/made using ONLY AC (Alternating Current) measurements to achieve consistancy between same model pickups. e.g I have Lawrence 710 pickups on my guitar and they have different DC resistances, BUT they are identical in AC parameters and they sound identical (I can switch the pickups between necks and still get the identical sound. |

I like a real hot p/u that I can set the lows/highs around on the amp, then add effects to. The BL XR-16's work for my taste. |

Billy, do you have XR-16s in your uni? I have them in my Carter D-10, I'm thinking of changing the pup in my Zum uni. Do you know what John Hughey has in his Zum? Sorry if I'm intruding here.

Got to love those XR-16's. They do sound fantastic!
Howard, Earlier this year I had Jerry Wallace rewind a BMI S/C for me to 19.5 DC ohms. He commented that John Hughey was using True Tones also wound to 19.5 DC ohms in his Zum. Have a safe and Happy New Year!
