I've spotted an amp for sale. Behringer model AC112. Has a Jenson 12" speaker. Any comments on this unit regarding suitability for steel. Thanks for any comments.
Just spotted another one. Any comments on a speaker called "Blue Marvel"

There was a local steeler that had a Behringer amp and it was terrible for steel. It has one 12" speaker.
About the only thing I can say about Behringer is their acquisition cost. |

Forget it. Buy a Nashville 112. You'll be happy. |

I agree about the 112. Best money I've spent.
I have a buddy with a Behringer amp. It's ok for guitar, not my pick though. It's not the cleanest sound I've ever heard. I've never tried it on steel.

I have the 1-10" (30 watt) model that I use for headphone practice on pedal and lap steel. It's perfect, with a lot of nice 'verbs and a CD in/out in the back next to the headphone jack. I can play along with CD's or listen to instruction while I practice. It's a cheap, versatile home-use amplifier with nice steel tone in the phones.
I wouldn't use it live, though. Out comes the Session 400 for that..... |

I use a little vox AD30 with a 10 incher around the
house mostly for 6 stringers. i use the NV 112
for reheasals and live gigs the little AD 30 is fine for
just learning songs with another gtr slinger or singer
but with the full band it wont do it.

Thanks to all for the feedback. As I suspected there is a lot of support fot the Peavey Nashville series amps. I have trawled the net extensively and am yet to find a Peavey Nashville Series amp for sale in this country - dealer or second hand. I guess if thats the way to go I'll have to import one. What about the studio pro 112 or bandit 112? Are they anywhere near the same?

There are a lot of "guitar" amps around and some may be better than others for Steel Guitar, but they are not "steel guitar" amps. They have a different "voicing" (EQ/Frequency Response) and the speaker is designed for the punch that lead guitar players desire, which is different than the amps and speakers made for steel guitar. |
