Need to find a source for a replacement output transformer for a 63 Fender Vibroverb. Seems these are scarce items. Any help appreciated.

output transformer for a Vibroverb is the same
as the smaller one used in the Vibrolux and Pro
Reverb. But the one listed above will sound
quite a bit better. More core material for
better "energy transfer". It will mount a bit
different though.

If you have a real vintage '63 Vibroverb, I strongly recommend against drilling holes in the chassis to mount a different size transformer - it will probably seriously devalue the amp, from a financial point of view, IMO. Those are worth some real money. I probably wouldn't even want to tear up a reissue Vibroverb, but it's probably not as critical there.

Both Allen transformers claim to fit with no drilling, a big advantage on a vintage piece. They have versions closer to a stock transformer (TO35MT) and a big-iron version (TO40MT). I'd probably use the 35 for guitar and 40 for steel, the big-iron normally gives a cleaner, fuller sound.

If this is a vintage piece, it is worth more with a correct-period transformer. If you have the original, perhaps burned out transformer, you might be able to find someone to rewind it. Otherwise, it's pretty tough to find an original, but perhaps not impossible. Vintage guitar shows and mags like Vintage Guitar Magazine sometimes unearth hard-to-find stuff.

I also recommend the Allen Amps Vibrolux output transformers. I've used the replacement OT for an original brown '63 Vibroverb with a missing OT, and the upgrade OTs (with extra iron) for several Vibroverb '63 reissue and Vibroclone projects. Always with great results. Very reasonable prices, too.

If you have the money to spend, you might also consider a replacement OT from Mercury Magnetics' Axiom series.

Bill, I have an OT out of a black face Tremolux that I don't need..part no.022848..If the numbers are the same you could keep it origanal.I tried it in another amp and it works..let me know..

These are the transformers for Vibroverbs.

For the Blackface Vibroverb I prefer more iron! A Twin Reverb transformer meets the bill. It is rated 100 watt at 4 ohms for 4 6L6GC tubes or 8 ohms for two 6L6GC tubes. A perfect impedance match and will give the best bass response you can imagine from the amp. I have built 4 Vibroverb clones, I used the Twin Reverb OT on the last one I built and what a difference it made! I am building #5 as we speak and it will get the Twin Reverb OT. I buy mine from New Sensor, Electro-Harmonix. They are Fender parts as well.
