Just curious....Everyone probably wears a wrist watch, usually on the left wrist. Often when I play a multi-neck steel, I have found the watch strap will invariably catch the strings on the closer neck. Is it ONLY me ? Quite some time ago, I transferred my watch to my right wrist and problem solved. Any "timely" comments ?  |

Don't do it George. I'm left handed, playing guitar right handed. That's how it know that if you wear an electronic watch on your right wrist, the pickup on your guitar or steel will pick up the electronic tick from your watch.
It's useful if you need a 60 bpm count-in, but mostly it will drive you crazy.
A clockwork watch is OK, of course, so you will be alright with the solid gold Rolex!
Mostly you need to take off your watch and put it in your pocket.

That's really interesting. However, I have never noticed anything like that happening. But you gave me a good idea ... maybe I can now play the "MINUTE WALTZ" in 60 seconds !

Never had a problem with my wrist band on my left wrist where it has resided for decades now. Long sleeved shirts and blazer sleeves always fouled me up.
BAD ADVICE! Don't ever put that watch in your pocket, lest you be left with a pocket full of tics!
I apologize.......it was a straight line from heaven and just couldn't pass it up. |

Oooh, those darn sleeves!
I don't have a watch or any jewelry to get in the way, but the problem I have is the sharp metal corner of my National pickup digging into my skin when I rest my elbow on the inside neck and play the middle one.
It's because I keep the pickups uncovered, but I know if I start pulling the pickup cover on and off, I'm just going to lose it.
Just thought I'd add my own steel guitar pain to the conversation. |

I swap my watch to my right and my sygnet ring to my left hand.. but only just whilst I'm playing.. I change them back before leaving the stage.. I don't know about elsewhere, but here in the UK a watch on the right wrist has a "SPECIFIC" meaning !!!

A simple fix for me is to wear an expansion band on my watch. I keep one on a old wind-up watch just for playing.

Either I'm too ugly or such an obvious babe magnet that I just don't attract the gay guys!
Now when it comes to propositions from women....
I'm too happily married to even remember those days!

In the UK and Ireland it does signify a particular "Bent" as does white socks ,So I'm told. (Which I also wear on stage)
Dave .. college "Professors" are accepted to be a little quirky !! and you obviously don't drink around the "Broad Street Area" of brum !! on a Saturday night..

Hey folks, Keoki has a steam operated watch. Edmonton Alberta doesn't have electricity yet.
By the way, I wear my "wrist" watch on my left ankle!!! Does that make me unique!!!

Nope, just oil. Lots and lots of oil.
Do what my Uncle Jimmy did and sew your watch to the inside of your hat. Then, when someone asks you the time, take off your hat to shield your eyes while you look at the position of the sun in the sky, hum and haw for a moment, squint a little, then impress your friends with your uncanny, to-the-minute precision.
