I am curious what makes and models are used by Forum members for recording at home. I am considering getting a Fostex VF160 vs. a Boss BR1180 vs. Fostex VF80 vs. Korg D1200.

There have been many posts on this. Some in the last several months. If you try doing some searches for recording or tascam or boss or ???? you will probably find more than you'd ever hoped to find.

| I've noticed that the 16-track Roland VS-1680 and VS-1880s are going really cheap used these days. Big LCD display, more gazintas and gazouttas, 16 tracks. |

Presently still using my Boss BR-8 but just purchased a Yamaha AW2816 which I will start to use shortly.
The Boss products have the market cornered on the Ease of Use thing .
I have seen those new Korg 12 trackers..they look very nice as well..

It does all I need and more.
Had it for almost 2 years.
Their support forums were a great help when starting, but are now down. I hope that's only temporary. |

Layla Hard disk system, syched to Tascam tsr-8 and vs 880, Mackie board. Gives me about 20 channels all at once if I need it. Prosonus tube pres.

I use computer technology.
imac 8ooMHZ
MOTU 828 digital interface (24 bit, 48 MHZ)
MOTU Performer Pro software
The software contains the mixing board, and all outboard processing including, reverbs, delays, compression, limiting, amp simulators, distortion effects, phase shifting effects, etc. They all sound as professional as it gets.
It is a little bit more expensive but the flexibility is unmatched. I computer can double as a word processor for lyrics, it plays BIAB for tracks, it stores all your music on the hard drive, burns CDS, and let's me access this forum as well as all music on the internet.
There are many similar computer products on the market (PC and Mac) the are very good. They are intuitive and look like the analog hardware they are simulating on the computer screen.
No matter what you decide to use, the home recording hobby is a lot of fun!

on a KORG D1600. The touchscreen makes it
alot easier to use than some other recorders.

I'm also one of the (apparantly rather few ?) computer guys here :
POD2.0 -> Alto S-8 mixer -> SoundBlaster Live and PG Music's Power Tracks Pro Audio 8.0 sequenzer (sp?) on a 1.7 GHz Pentium 4 HP Vectra PC.
