I just noticed that when Peavey changed the Session 400 faceplate in '75 from painted to molded plastic, they also changed the numerals that indicate the knob setting. The earlier faceplate is marked from 1 to 10 at each extreme of the knob's travel. The molded faceplate goes from 0 to 10, that is 11 digits on there. Does this mean that the Session 400 really goes to 11? What this does though is change the positions of the numbers. On the old faceplate, 5 is at about 11:00 and 6 is at about 1:00. On the newer faceplate the 5 is straight up noon. So when people compare settings for tone, be sure you know which faceplate you're using as a reference.
