Is the correct value 250k for the volume pot in a Fender volume Tone?

I used a regular 500K Allen Bradley in mine
& it works perfect. I still have the old
pot so I can measure it to see what value
it is if you want.

I believe they have always used the 1/2 meg (500K) pot in their volume footpedal. |

Phil, my heart goes out to you. You'll be cursing the day they invented string before you're done!
BTW, mine has a 50K for volume and 250K for tone, works great. |

Phil,
Yeah, I'll tell ya...dealing with that
cord when you're changing the pot is NOT FUN!
Clarostats are pretty common these days.
That's what the Goodrich & George L's are.
I've got an Ohmite if you need it. |

Yeah, I know all about the string thing now that I've assembled and disassembled it a few times.
I don't know anything about the Clarostat. Will it work in this passive circuit? Also, where do I get one if that's the one to use?
Thanks for all help

I know Discount String Warehouse carries
the Goodrich pots (which are Clarostats).
I think they're about $25 each.
You can email him at strings@apex.net

The original Fender volume/tone pedal had two 250K Ohmite type AB pots in it. I bought a new one, I think it was in the late 50's or early 60's, and used it for about 20 years. During that time I replaced the pots several times. That was back when you could still buy the Ohmite AB pots at the local electronics store for two to three dollars.

Compared to anything you have to change on a steel (with the exception of just a string), changing the string on the Fender pedal is a snap! When replacing the string, I recommend flat lacing cord (either Dacron or Nylon). I wax it before installing, and it lasts for years and years. In 35 years of playing, I've only changed the cord 3 or 4 times. Not bad, considering a lot of those years were 3-5 nights a week, with five 40-minute sets, plus day gigs and practicing!
If you'll send me a S.A.S.E., I'll send you enough to do the job (gratis). |

I got it perty much licked.
I decided to keep the 250kohm pot since it was the original. The pot works well but it's somethings getting caught on the dust cover. As soon as I tackle that I'll call it good.Of course this means undoing the cord again.I think I'll put that on hold for a few days.
I really appreciate all the help and thanks Donny for the string offer.
