A friend of mine sent me a few live cuts from a guy named Billy Mata which were recorded in Texas. Who is Billy and what instrument does he play? This was great western swing and classic country. I'd like to hear more from this guy. On one tune when the steel ride came on Billy called out the name "Otis", I dont' know if that was the first or last name of the steeler........JH in Va.

Billy Mata lives near San Antonio. His steel player is Roger Edgington who is a forum member. What a great band! I actually got to sub on fiddle with these guys a while back. Great band and a great bunch of guys.

Billy's been a fixture around here for almost 30 years that I recall. I've sat in with the band subbing for Roger, and Scott is right... they're a total gas to work with.

For that matter, Scott is a total gas to work with. How long did we play together with Bush, Sheriff?

The pickin' definitely ain't over 'til Billy Mata and Band have played. Roger is a great talent. They came down and played at our steel guitar club meeting. Fabulous. Jody.

I met Billy several years ago in Texas. He's a hellava singer, has a powerful voice that can knock out the back wall, but oh so controlled. Every bit as good in person as on record. A nice guy, too.
