Anyone have any idea where I could get the sheet music for Night Life?
I've searched the web to no avail.
There's a "100,000 free sheet music titles" site that you have to join but I'm leery of that; too good to be true ...
I want the sheet music, not tab.

Don, try MusicNotes.com. You can get the sheet music for most any song. They charge less than $5.00. Pay by credit card. Good luck.

| ... or you could look for "Sportin' Life", which is pretty darn near the same song. Was recorded by (among others?) the Lovin' Spoonful in the '60s, with writing credit to the band members. I'd still like to know who stole that song from whom. |

| Jim, I understand that Paul Buskirk wrote a large portion of the song with Willie Nelson's help. Paul was a good friend of Willie's and I worked with Paul back in the 60's with Paul. I remember Paul telling me of Willie being broke and trying to sell the song for something like $200.00. Paul talked him out of it. |

Jimbeaux, I did check Sportin' Life as well and found lots of sources for lyrics and chords to both songs, but no success for either one re: the actual musical notation. And I'm way past the age where I'm likely to follow most of the "nightlife" links that came up. "The spirit is willing, but ..."

Don, I learned the intro from Winnie Winton's book years ago....That's a good start if you have it...JH in Va.
Jim, I'd heard that Willie wrote the whole song and sold it to Buskirk. If you look at the old Nightlife album under the title of the song, Willie's not even listed. It's something like P. Buskirk & S. Buskirk I believe. Later on some other recordings Willie's name is listed only. He must have re-aquired the rights himself. On the Ray Price album cut he says "Here's a song written for me by a boy down in Texas way" referring to Willie............JH in Va.

I found my copy of the sheet music and mine is a xerox copy and the right margin was not totally in place, clipping it off a bit. The writer's credit reads, Willie
Paul
I'm sure it reads, Willie Nelson and Paul Buskirk. But, Jim, I've never heard the version you bring up, nor have I heard of the performers. I lead a sheltered life. |

| I have BIAB file of Willie's version. I'll send it via email. You can print out the score in BIAB. If you don't have BIAB then the file does little good. |

I have a copy of the song,on an album that I bought in 1966,by the Mary Kaye Trio. It lists the writers as,"Nelson-Buskirk-Breeland".
HOWEVER,the Ray Price album lists the writers as,"P.Buskirk-W.Breeland-W.Buskirk-M.Matthews". No mention of Willie. And who's "W.Buskirk" & "M.Matthews"?

Well, FWIW, I checked the Harry Fox website (www.songfile.com) and the composers are officially listed as:
Willie Nelson, Walt Breeland, Paul Buskirk
Also, FWIW, "Sportin' Life" is attributed to "John Sebastian, Zal Yanovsky, Steve Boone, and Joe Butler" (aka the Lovin' Spoonful) but there's also a listing by Brownie McGhee and I know that Sebastian was a huge Sonny Terry/Brownie McGhee fan, so I'm wondering whether BOTH Sportin' Life and Night Life weren't maybe pilfered from McGhee? |
