Priceless I know, but what is a 52 or 3 string through pickup short scale Fender Dual 8 worth these days . Comes with legs,a destroyed case , lots of pitting and dirt ( i.e. 25 years in roadhouses and 25 in the attic ). The Vintage Guitar Guide lists the low price for excellent condition as $750. Any ideas from forumites in the know willing to share ?

thanks

I know of an original Custom that was sold to
a steel player by Elderly Music in Michigan.

This steel player found his original guitar that was given to him back in 1952.

I beleive the selling price was $1,800.00.
Some people will pay for something of sentimental value,Chas Smith said it all when he said something to the effect. That its
only paper money in exchange for something of value to those who want something special to them. I saw this Fender Custom and it is as new as it was back in 1952. Mint condition

Chas can correct me on that..

Thanks for your comments , sorry I can't post pictures although did get some non closeup medium rez pic's by e-mail from the dealer . I have webtv and no digital camera. The guitar is basically dirty and might look better after a major cleanup. It looks like it's been played a lot and someone must have taped key notes on several fret markers on the first neck and then scraped them off with a knife point . It sounds fine and is VERY comfortable to play . I've been snooping for some time now for a good steel and might have gotten one , I just don't know if $750 is overpriced for it's shape, or whether they are getting tougher to find these days. I was torn between this and a 54 Rick D-8 Blonde in much better shape for $900. It seems that sometimes I see some " refinished " ones " substantially cheaper than the unrefinished ones

Kevin,
Does it show any signs of being in a flood or water damaged? Have you seen this guitar up close and personal? played it?

If it grabs you when you play it, and everything works, then let your intuition guide you. If it does not sound good, or if things don't work, maybe skip this one.

There will be more coming along.

IMHO
