Certainly proof that the show was more of a popularity contest than a talent contest.However it is nice to see one who has paid his dues,worked at his chosen career through rejection,hardships and continued until his big chance came.That is what Nashville use to be all about.He did show the most charisma,and stage presence,self assurance and photogenic quality needed nowadays. So the best of luck to him,he is on a solid label that does not like to lose money.If the label is truly behind him add a great studio, session players and cut a hit. No doubt at all he won fair and square.There were no losers,the others have gained enough publicity,showcased their talents now the best of luck also to them. as far as the Warren brothers maybe they can get in the next contest.

Congratulations to Brad!
I thought it'd be him from the beginning for several reasons. So many people who begin in the church seem to have a purity about them. His music oozed out effortlessly like breathing does for most. I love his songwriting - I Meant to is gorgeous. Glad to have another soulful, fantastic talent on board! |

For me, The other guy (___ Canyon) painted a closer picture of what I would call a "Nashville" star, (based on my own perception of what Nashville represents with respect to country music).
A guy sitting down playing a synth/keyboard?
Nashville Star?
Ouch!
Disclaimer: The only episode of Nashville Star I have ever seen was last nights show.

| i think all these shows are full of it, i remember back in the early 80s on the "you can be a star" show i send it two different appications. one i said i was a normal working man with the normal income, the other was a well to do person that had nothing but time and money, i used two different address but used the same song. well never or less the second profile got the invite for the audition. i never followed up on it just tossed it in the can that pretty well showed me what nashville was all about. just my 2 1/2 cents worth. |

If you're talking about Vassar Clements, he's a great fiddle player.
I'm kinda out of the Top 40 County loop (by choice), so if a precedent has been set with regard to headlining country stars being keyboard players... I guess I'd be the guy yelling "Steel patch!... Steeeeel Paaaaatch!!!" at the show.

Ronnie Milsap seems to do allright with keyboards and country music.
I believe Brad Cotter did front work with no instrument and with guitars as well as the keyboard. He's a great song writer and a soulful singer. His lyrics and vocal control are pretty awesome. I wouldn't turn down a gig with him.
George Canyon is very likable and is a good front man as well. |

Yes Brad primarly sang up front with a Guitar for most fo the series..good singer, good writer, good up front presence..
I'm not 100% convinced that the public vote is the final vote at the end..I think may be as long as it is in line with Sony's opinion..
It would be real easy to delete 200 or 300 thousand EMAILS that went the wrong ( RED HAT ) direction..
I'm thinking SONY will not want to loose..
That being said though, Brad was a fine choice..
On the NVILLE Star website there is a Q+A section with Tracey Gershon..in which she made a very interesting statement and addressed many of our observations..It was suggested to her by EMAIL that the show seemed to lack the spark of talent and artists from the first series and she states that she agreed but that was only due to the folks that came out to audition..this group was the top of the heap of this that actually tried out.. her comment to me makes me think that going forward this could be an issue..which it will be for the shows survival..
For me Brad was on good choice, I like him fine, I also liked the Lance guy that got the boot a few weeks back..The Red Hat Goober should just go back to the Car Wash where he came from..and the George Canyon fella..at the start he was my first choice but each week seemed to not bring anything new to the table..
But what the heck..I'm on the couch side of the TV..what do I know !
I can criticise pretty good though !

| IMHO!!!!! The "Red Cap Goober" Would be a good supporting act for a road show, so there is a place for his type of acts in country music, but not as a "star". The most talented performer on the NS show was Jennifer Hicks. I have only been been involved in country music a short time, playing steel guitar for 60 yrs. As I say, IMHO. Jody. | I watched the show a time or two and it never struck me as something I would want to watch for a period of time. Regardless of who won I do remember a young lady who sang and I did not think she would be a winner. What disturbed me was one of the judges told her so and was so rude in his comments and the way he handled himself. The young lady nearly broke down in tears on the stage. I cannot tell you who the judge was but he to me was a jerk. You can get the point across without being so rude especially on a show that is being televised. The lady deserved more respect than she received and even though she was not "Star Quality" his comments and actions she will carry with her the rest of her life. |

Congratulations to Brad. Like it or not he came out on top. He accomplished something that a lot of us never have, and most likely never will. He was able to perform before cheering crowds the likes of which most never see, and on national television as well. Not just once but many times. Of course the same can be said for the guy most seem to dislike for some reason, and have affectionaly dubbed him the "Red Hat Goober", and of course let's not forget about Ms. Hicks as well as all the rest. They all wanted to win and none of them enterd this thing planning to loose, but there could only be 1 winner, and that does not diminish the success or ability of any of the rest. All of the contestants did a great job but this was just not their time, it was however Brad's time. All of the rest have been seen and heard by the biggest names in the business, all aspects of the business, and any of them could get a phone call from someone who heard/saw them on the show. They may have their time still, due to the show. You never know, Ms Hicks or any of the rest could get a call from another label at any time. You never know what Nashville is gonna do The powers that be could decide to bring back an updated version of Hee Haw and "The Red Hat Goober" would be a perfect member of that cast. They all did an exceptional job and are all truly winners.

| How can anybody take this show seriously? I tuned in once out of morbid curiosity. Some of them had talent, but the whole idea of competing to be the next Nashville Clone reeks of artless commercialism. Thankfully my wife made me change the channel. |

In all fairness though..even though I am very criticle as well..this was only the second season ( show ) with the first bringing out Buddy Jewell..he is not a Nashville Clone..he is a tried and true Country singer/writer and he does not look anything like Tim, Kenny or Keith..thank God for that..and this was probably the reason he was passed by for years and years. Just look at the success of his CD and that should 'splain it Lucy...

I agree this last bunch of male singers did not appear to have what it takes to be the next Buddy Jewell let alone a Nashville Star..but at least someone gets a chance to be seen and heard and gets a chance to see if they can actually become a "Star"..so to speak..
The voting has to change..multiple votes per person does not make this a conttest pertaining to talent.
Lets hope Brad does well..and employs a Steel Player ..

That's Lance Miller.
Lance has been doing demos and hitting the pavement in Nashville for 8 years.
I'm sure the doors will open for him this year. He's a super nice guy too!

I liked Matt Lindahl and found him to be the most enjoyable of the contestants I watched. I guess I kind of miss the funny, irreverant country music songs you used to hear and he seems to like doing stuff like that.
IMHO he may not be a "nashville star" (yawn) but he definitely understands what it takes to be an Entertainer.

John, does this mean you are gonna' start wearing a Red Hat ?
I would not disagree that Matt may offer some entertainment value..( I personally wouldn't go see him) but the way I see it..you see him once ..thats it..would he sell records? I'm thinking..NOT.. I never saw the comparison between Matt and the great Roger Miller.. who he was somewhat compared to ..
How about a special Matt Lindahl edition Steel ? Maybe Bright Red with a Clown Face on it !!
