Is there a web simul-cast of the Opry performance? I'm particularly interested in Friday night. Anybody got the URL?
The Wilkinsons should be performing their new single "I Wish I Was That Girl" from the forthcoming album (May/June). I asked the road manager the other day (he's just heard the song a week or two ago) if it was "country". He say said "Yes, and it's good".
Now, I'm not certain what his definition of "country" is, though.
At any rate, Steve Wilkinson told me last year that the new album would be "more country" than the previous one. Of course, plans change.
We'll see.

I know David is a big Wilkinson's fan. I've only heard them on radio or TV but I haven't heard anything from them that I would consider "country".
The choice of instruments, eg dobro (or pedal steel) doesn't necessarily make it one genre of music. |

You won't get much argument from me on that, Jack. (Though you might from Theresa ).
The best description I've come up with for them is "James Taylor meets The Carpenters".
They definitely aren't Bob Wills, though. However, they have been singing "San Antonio Rose" on their tour lately. I'm not sure if it'll make it on the album, though. (I hope not -- there's one or two others I dearly want to see get on the album, and one of them, "Oil and Water" didn't make it on the last one -- though tracks were cut for it).
At any rate, I do know that the song they were first intending for the first single off this album definitely isn't country. (No, I haven't heard it, but others have).
I hope the new single is more "country" -- I think that will allow them to start getting more airplay like they origianally had. But what do I know? I thought "Shame on Me" would do very well. Bet none of you have even heard it, it got so little airplay.
Anyway, I'm sure Alison Krause will save the day if their single isn't country enough for ya.

OK, you can shoot me now if ya want to.
I doubt it's gonna pass the ol' "country" test. But, it is a I, IV, V7 song (in the key of D). Sooooo, get those steels ready, and lay down some licks. Then it won't hurt so bad.
And, yes, I do like them. But it goes way beyond the music. And, like them, it doesn't bother me too much if you don't like the music. Not everybody likes Bob Wills, either.
Is the Opry going to stay at the Ryman for a while, or is this just temporary? I really think it should be held there. I just love that place. Too bad I live so far away.
Janice, what do you do for the Opry? If I remember correctly, you operate one of the on-stage cameras? (Memory loss must start at age 36).

Another great week from the Ryman.
David is correct that the Wilkinsons new single is not quite hardcore country.
The Peasall sisters seemed very calm.
Emmy Lou looked stunning as always.

Oops! Sorry for confusing you with Theresa White. So, you just get the info from their website. I guess I assumed you had an "inside connection", for some reason. Silly me!
I know who Theresa Galbraith is, so I won't be confusing her with anybody.
Is Theresa White Tommy's wife (or other relative)?
I thought The Wilkinsons sounded great tonight on the Opry. They even seemed comfortable this time. Now, if I could just get Tyler to tuck in his shirt.
