I just joined this forum. I did some research on this but failed to get a complete picture about a Fender guitar that a buddy left to me when he died. I will need help posting photos...I tried but no luck. Also any hints to look for identifying marks/numbers or what parts to photograph is appreciated.

I'm no authority on being able to determine the year from the photos of the guitar and the case though I would guess that it's from sometime in the mid to late 1950s, but you definitely have a Fender Deluxe 6, and not one of the early ones that came with a trapezoidal pickup.

Check out the thread linked below- scroll down to Jeff Mead's post and you can see some old Fender catalog pages that he scanned.

Yep, Fender Deluxe 6, made between about 1955 -1961, judging by the style and the case… and assuming that the case is original to the guitar. There is a serial number stamped on the control plate, under that metal cover. But that serial number will not tell you when the guitar was made. It’s only useful in comparing to other Fender Deluxes to determine which one is older or newer. The volume and tone pots should have a number code printed on them which will tell you when the pots were made. By the way, the exact year is not relevant to the value of the guitar. All years are worth about the same. Condition determines the value.

Also, no guarantees but a lot of Fenders have dates handwritten under the tuner pans. Mine did, anyway.
