Great songwriter, classic voice, and as one of my helicopter pilot brethren Kris gets extra points for being an Army helicopter pilot in his early days. I sill remember seeing Kris and his wife at the time, Rita Coolidge, play outdoors on the Boston Common in the 1970's. Rest in peace.

Lost a absolute poet, not many like him anymore. RIP Kris

If you waste your time talking to
The people who won’t listen to
The things that you are saying who
Do you think’s gonna hear?
And if you should die explaining how
The things that they complain about
Are things they could be changing,
Who do you think’s gonna care?
There were other lonely singers
In a world turned deaf and blind
Who were crucified
For what they tried to show
And their voices have been scattered by
The swirling winds of time,
Because the truth remains
That no one wants to know.

- To Beat the Devil

As a fellow bass / baritone he's a huge influence.

"Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose...." - one of the greatest songwriters of all times, a true icon, simply a great man has left us. RIP, Kris!

Not too many of the heroes in his league are still with us. Willie, Dolly,...and then the era of the true giants has come to an end. Sad thought but I guess that's the way it has to be. I feel sorry for the young and coming generations who will only be able to experience those legends from old records, books and video clips.

Veteran, Rhode Scholar, chose to move to Nashville and write songs instead of be head Government officer, Poet Laureate, Great American Writer! We lost a pillar in our music DNA today that will never be equal to what Kris shared. The last of the Highwaymen (Willie Nelson) is all that’s left of the Greatest 4 ever to test a mic on stage.

Rest in Peace Kris!

I was a Kris Kristofferson fan from the beginning! The rawness in his voice told his story of pain, joy, wisdom, love and truth. I was captivated by his work!
I was a Flight attendant for Delta Air Lines in the 70s, and seeing Celebrities on our flights was a common thing. Kris boarded the plane with some of his band, and was seated in coach where I happened to be working. During the flight I told him how much I enjoyed his music and asked for his autograph. He asked me what my favorite song was. I replied, JODY AND THE KID! He thanked me, and said even though he recorded it, someone else wrote the song.
I was somewhat embarrassed about that mistake, but he said it was ok, since he loved the lyrics too!
What a nice guy!! It was a fun encounter for me in my 20s!
Thanks for your autograph, Kris - and for your wisdom in writing!
Rest in peace.

Hi Donna

According to various sheet music I have for Kris, the words and music for 'Jody & the Kid' are credited to him. A great song writer whose songs will last for ever.
