Probably a simple question… but I’ve snapped enough strings to want to be cautious/sure

I want to mess with Open E on my standard scale Weissenborn. I play lots of Open D (which is, of course, a tone below E)… but want to acquaint with E

I use John Pearse resonator strings with these gauges
3160 "D" Tuning D A F# D A D [to bass] - .015, .018, .027, .038, .048, .060

Can I tune up those gauges to E without the risk of string snappin’ fireworks?

Possibly. By using strings that are too heavy, I would worry more about pulling the bridge or, structural damage before getting too concerned about breaking strings.

E tuning with those gauges is both risky for string breakage and very likely to damage the weissenborn.
Either use lighter strings or get a good capo like the charlie's

I have a "normal" guitar (round-neck) that I keep tuned to E.
I use D'Addario EJ24 "True Medium" strings, which have a lighter gauge for strings 3,4,5 - the ones that get tuned up.
.013 .017 .024 .032 .042 .056

I would not use those heavy gauge strings for E.

Thanks for all the help.
I scrounged around my box of miscellaneous strings and set up my Oahu Tonemaster with gauge appropriate for E open.

Think I’ll leave the weissenborns with the heavier gauges and tune to Open D, G and Steve Dawson’s cool ‘Csus2’ tuning (H-L: CGCGCD)

On my Weissenborn in E I use John Pearse 3130HB. .015-.052. Very Happy
