EDIT: I guess you have to have a paid account to use the algorithms necessary, but you can do some other basic stem separation free.

You can take a song and remove the steel part from it.
Example:
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/vb7gd7129s7atzs7nyr14/Your-Man-PSG.mp3?rlkey=sjkgmf9mfcbp259u3ipktj8ti&st=22m5i911&dl=0

1. Create a free account at https://studio.moises.ai/. You'll be able to do 2-3 songs a month for free, I think.

2. Upload your song for "track separation", choosing the algorithm labelled:
Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Vocals, Drums, Bass, Other

3. Process it and download the stems. The steel will be in the "electric guitar" stem. If this is good enough for you to remix the steel out, then you're good. Load into your DAW and mix out the steel. If there is still electric 6 string guitar intertwined with the steel part, try step 4...

4. Take your electric guitar stem only, and upload it to moises, this time choosing the algorithm:
Lead Guitar, Rhythm Guitar, Vocals, Drums, Bass, Other

5. Export the lead and rhythm guitar stems and mix them back in (minus steel) with your other tracks.

Hope this helps.
-Jay

Jay: That's a great idea. And a good example. I recently downloaded that app onto my tablet, not knowing if I'll ever figure out how to use it. Thanks, Tommy.....

It doesn't always work quite as well as the example. For instance I couldn't get the steel and electric parts to separate in Neon Moon. Occasionally your steel part will emerge in the "Other" stem.

If you have to do that step 4 and it ends up working, the steel part is usually separated out to the "Lead" stem. You just sort of have to play around with it, but you should always be able to get something usable in less than 30 minutes.

I actually use Moises to do the opposite. I extract the steel parts to learn them. It's an awesome app!

Right...that too. Here's the extracted part for the "example" file.
