Alex Hassilev, banjoist/guitarist and founding member of the Limeliters, passed away April 21 at the age of 91. When I was first learning guitar in 1960 at the age of 13, I sometimes fantasized myself in a Limeliters/Kingston Trio kind of combo. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |

I recorded at his home studio in LA in the 60s. I remember that he had an original Moog synthesizer. |

Their album - "Tonight: In Person - The Limeliters" recorded in July 1960 will forever remain a classic.

A former bandmate of mine is married to Lou Gottlieb's daughter. I met Lou at their wedding. He had a larger than life presence, as did his Limeliter bandmates, according to him. RIP, Alex. |
