Beat me to it. I just did a sweep, listening to his early hits a couple of days ago - just on a whimsy, I was thinking about him. One of my biggest influences.
Got to hang with him a couple of times at a guitar show and Summer NAMM, back in my hardcore rockabilly days. I was toting my '56 6120 at one of them. Cool guy, great player, what a sound! His influence cannot be overestimated. |

I remember finding Have Twangy Guitar Will Travel at a record store in college and I was kind of shocked I hadn't found Duane sooner. I bought it just because he was holding that Gretsch on the cover. That tone is like everything Ive ever tried to do since then. Duane seemed like a really kind guy, too.

Heard "Rebel-Rouser" on Top 40 Radio when it came out. I was just learning and was delighted to hear something I could actually play! Saw him live in '62 or '63 and was so very impressed that 4 guys could sound just like the record.  |

Six weeks ago I got his 2-disc compilation, "Twang Thang." (Yeah, I still like CDs.) I've listened to both discs several times. I'll play them again today.
A true innovator. Simple but powerful.

I started playing guitar in the early '60s in an instrumental surf-music band, playing songs by Duane Eddy, The Ventures, Willie Mitchell, Link Wray, Charles Walker, Dick Dale, and of course, The Surfaries. These guys and groups were what got me started playing music.
