My long time fascination with ragtime, in particular Scott Joplin and several others, continues. I arranged The Entertainer sort of Ragtime Hawaienne style, even pulling out the Sol Hoopii Rickenbacher for it.

That was incredible Mike! I love the tone you are getting. That guitar is a treasure. Are you playing through the Bronco? If so could you share your channel settings? I hear a little reverb a touch of breakup. I have an early Frontman which is the same circuit. If people don't know what they are listening to, they would never guess solid state. Sweet little amps... I put the Frontman in a larger cabinet and it just sounds amazing. It cost $15. |

I bought that Bronco and a MIM Tele for $75 about 10 years ago. I stubbornly forced a 10” JBL in there, causing all kinds of weirdness, and as it happens the JBL is blown. I have to keep the volume at around 2. Treble is at 3, bass and mid both at 7.5. No gain—this guitar drives the input pretty hard. Love that little amp. The mic in front of it is an AKG 414, and I run that into Reaper where I added some reverb via Modnetic. I just played along with the uke and bass tracks that I recorded a few minutes beforehand.
I recorded Keepin’ It Real with the exact same set up.
Thanks everyone! I am going to be hanging around in the shallow end of this pool of genius (Joplin, Jelly Roll Morton, James P. Johnson, Willie The Lion Smith, Thelonious Monk et al) for the rest of my life. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

Excellent! Tone, performance, great arrangement of a timeless classic. What else could you ask for as a listener? _________________ Steel Guitar Books! Website: www.volkmediabooks.com |

Great work Mike. I remember transcribing the four sections for classical guitar years back and know the problems you will have had with the 3rd and 4th sections. Not only the transcription but beautifully recorded and performed. This is as good as it gets. Kudos for playing it on Sol Hoopii's Bakelite Ricky. Mike |

Wonderful! Mike, you always surprise us with how applicable a lap steel is to so many styles of music. Thanks for the inspiration! That Ricky "don't lose that number" |

I was pretty pleased with the way this turned out, and the response has been very positive.
I’m going to spend the next ____[months/years] preparing an album with the same instrumentation, maybe something I will be proud of one day. This is kind of a dream project for me. I’ve been compiling a lot sheet music and keeping notes for a while and I think I have a plan.
Honestly, it feels like a bit of relief to focus on music that is less improvisational and more composed. I’ve done a lot of reading on the art of really learning and retaining a piece of music, and that is a huge leap forward for me. I can admit I have most likely been dealing with ADD my entire life.
Thanks for the support! _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

Consider at least one copy sold already! This is really great stuff and fun to listen to!

I feel you! Like many people, I never realized that I had it until my son was diagnosed. And then I realized that everyone in my family has ADD/ADHD. It can be a super power at times, but more often that isn't the case. And cell phones (texting, emails, alerts of all kinds) have been a huge detriment to my ability to focus. |

Having a grown son with ADD I've learned that despite its detriments, for activities that are preferred, it can give a person an ability to hyper-focus beyond that of most folks. Many highly accomplished people have likely had ADD or ADHD. _________________ Steel Guitar Books! Website: www.volkmediabooks.com |
