Hey Jim, and thanks for the compliments and the encouragement. But as far as doing one of those course things I used to do with tracks and tab, that's not in the foreseeable future at the moment.
I'm basically retired, though I do front a jazz/swing quintet at a small club in South Austin twice a month. Killer rhythm section, keyboardist and tenor player. Being a bandleader is a PITA but the encouragement of world class accompanists makes it somehow worth it. I need to get the band videoed.

You go ahead on, thanks for the reminder of what was once the only way to do it and why I am here on the steel guitar forum.
Great granddad was a six-string acoustic steeler who played for over 50 years in the Pacific NW, long before electricity was a given in rural communities. He never saw a pedal guitar, but he planted a seed with me before he passed in 1956, playing his beautiful old 1897 Washburn. It was only natural that I grew up trying to emulate the sound I had heard then with six strings in an open 6th tuning, learning everything I could gather from the records of Leon McAuliffe and Don Helms.
In 1973 I bought a Maverick from my boss at Giant Music in VA and pretty much never looked back, pedals replaced most slants and single notes became fat chords and rich moving harmony. I was hooked, but my love of the old western swing sounds stuck with me. That fascination with western swing led to a life-long friendship with Joni Harms, and that in turn led me to the sounds of Herb Steiner on M.M.Murphy's "Cowboy Songs" album, a pure classic IMHO.
As they say, "amateurs copy, professionals steal" and so at the very least a thank you is in order for all I have learned and the continuing inspiration to learn more every day.

I'm not as well-versed in the roster of fine non-pedal players as I should be after all these years of being a steel guitarist.
I recall my first exposure to the great Tommy Morrell; it was actually piped music in an hotel lounge! I sought the manager who kindly investigated the source. That's how I learned his name.
This performance reminds me of that experience. I eventually saw Tommy at a St Louis show and I was riveted. I had never been tempted by non-pedal steel, believing that the hindrances to getting interesting harmonies were too great.
I'm not too proud to own my mistake: I should have started out on one! I'd be a better player today had I done so.
