Our guitarist has a Peavey Bandit with a 3 way damper switch, loose, ? and tight. What is this for? He wants a clean country tone and can't hear much difference! Any advice out there?

The settings are loose, medium and tight. Damping is Peavey's name for negative feedback from the speaker jack to the input of the power amp stage. Changing the amount of feedback makes a subtle change in the low & high end at the same time, and slightly changes the total output level. It's most audible when the amp is cranked up loud, so if your guitarist is playing clean, he may not hear anything different between the settings. If he does, "tight" might be more to his liking.
