I wrote this tune tonight and named it The Greasy Rag because of the ragtime feel and slippery melody. I like that I wrote it on the lap steel, it was tailor made for it.

This Clinesmith has such a different tone to it than my aluminum Clinesmith. And for the chord work it actually sounds like a guitar to me, not a lap steel. It’s my go to now for the bluesier stuff.

Ear candy! I like that the melody is complex yet memorable.

Like I said on Instragam, Mike... that's a fun ride! Very catchy melody, kind of a ragtime/blues feel. And a nice mix, overall good recording. Well done.

Thanks guys. Sometimes it seems like the music just comes out of nowhere and writes itself, but when I think about it, it’s like seeing things that you really worked hard at all of a sudden find their way into your music. It’s a good feeling.

I know what you mean about tunes sometimes writing themselves. I find that’s especially true when experimenting with new, unfamiliar tunings... you’re hunting and pecking around, learning where the chords are and where the harmonies are, and suddenly you stumble onto something beautiful or exotic that you never would have discovered on any other tuning.

Very cool, Mike! You are right, Doug, about unfamiliar tunings being inspirational for song writing. Those little differences in a tuning are sure fun to mess with. That's what I love about lap steel. I love your almost acoustic tone on that Clinesmith, Mike. So good. Razz

This tune is so Hillbilly. So great. Is this the #min7 tuning again?
