Is there a chart anywhere, or some kind of resource, that lists the CORE size of wound strings through the guages?
This would be very handy for approximations when setting up string pulls... |

I don't know of any chart .. I would imagine there would be slight variations from brand to brand. You could measure it with an inexpensive caliper or micrometer, but that would only tell you what you had.
You might reach out to the brands you're interested in and get some data..? Or, you could try a poll on here and get some numbers for the 4-5 strings that are wound ( by brand).... |

I've got one at the shop somewhere- the one I remember was that a 20w had an 11 core- trying to minimize cabinet drop- it did help. |

There definitely is variance between brands and lines of strings. D'addario has significantly smaller cores than GHS Boomers. I believe GHS uses a smaller core for their "Low" sets for guitarists who tune down.
Contact the manufacturers or use a very good caliper. |

Dave and Rich, I think you're right that brand to brand would have variance.
The table that Jim posted is a helpful ballpark estimation tool. It need not be exact for my purposes.
It just saves trial and error with rodding/bellcrank hole selection etc.

I always took it as a given that core size was proprietary (not secret...just varying from brand to brand) and that comparing an SIT .024w with a a D'Addario .024w was apples/oranges. How & why nickel vs. stainless have different tension factors is another element (the how & why of which I do not understand).

I typically use GHS strings; but, sometimes use SIT strings.
There is definitely a difference in core size, with regard to their .036w strings.
When I use an SIT .036w on the 10th string, E9, I use the puller/bell crank hole that is out at the end. If I switch to a GHS .036w, I have to move the pull rod to the next hole, closer to the cross shaft.
