A friend of mine who has a music store just took in an Erickson S-10 pedal steel. It has three pedals and two knee levers. He's a banjo and mandolin guy, so I told him I'd try to find out about it.
It seems to be in good shape (I'm a non-pedal guy), except that it's missing two of the pedal rods.
Can new rods be found? What kind of value does it have?
I'm waiting on him to email me some pictures that I can post here. Thanks!

Erickson guitars were made by Alvin Erickson in
Clearbrook, Mn. I'm sure Albert Svendahl will chime in, as he played one for several years!

I was real close to buying one in the 70's, but bought a ZB instead.

Guys,
From what I understand, Zane Beck used to offer a BMI kit and Alvin would buy them and assemble them and put his name on them. I'm not sure how many kits Alvin bought.

Hope this helps,
Dan

Thanks for the info. I think that this guitar is one of the BMI ones. Any ideas on finding the pedal rods?

If you think a BMI rod will work, it looks like they are for sale on the BMI site...
http://www.beckmusicalinstruments.com/
(put your curser over BMI Products on the left side menu box - click on Parts List - scroll down about 3/4 to Pedal Rods)

You may want to check with BMI to compare your existing rod. Contact page...

John,
email me a picture of the pedal bar so I can look at the pedals and pedal balls so I can determine what you need, and we will be happy to help,

Dan

Here are the pictures they sent me.
Dan- I'll go over there tomorrow and take some detail pictures of the rod. One pedal also lacks the little connector for the rod attachment.

John, indeed the guitar you have was made by BMI. Elvin ( not Alvin) Erickson simply put his name on those guitars. Elvin, who has passed on. Made some great guitars of which I owned a couple . I wish I still had them.

Albert

I have an Erickson that is a copy of a Sho-Bud. That is info direct from Elvin in personal visits with him during Jeff Newman seminars that Elvin sponsored. Mine is 10 string E9th with 3 pedals and 4 knee levers. Cost was $750 in 1976. It's in the style of an LDG Sho-Bud with a padded arm rest.
