Topic: Tuning RKL for both 6th string split and half stop |

Is this possible? RKL alone drop the 6th string a full step. I have a half stop feel on it. It is also split with the B pedal, so I could potentially have two different ways to get to the G note.
It's a GFI expo. I know how I would tune either a split or a half stop separately, but is there an order of operations to tune both?

I think my actual constraint will be a need to choose a tunable split either for the 1st string raise (hitting G halfway) or the 6th string lower (hitting G halfway). I don't think there is a way to get both to work with RKL.
In my head, the 6th string G would be more useful than the 1st string G, even if I have two ways of getting that G on the 6th string.

| Yeah. My assessment was strictly from a mechanical viability standpoint. How well it works musically is a different story. And getting the timing of the G's on the 1st and 6th strings to line up on the feel stop.....I don't know that it's likely to be possible. |

I drop my G (o.o24w which is a MUCH longer throw than the o.o20plain y'alls use on E9th) on my C6th a full tone on a Vertical on my steels. And some are very light weight single necks (Excel).
Some guitars have stupidly short return springs and get very stiff with longer drops as the spring's tension raises as it gets pulled.
Split Tuning on a guitar that offers that setting ought not to be an issue.

I think you would need to tune the split first. This will get the 6th string lower nylon tuner set correctly. Once you have that setting, you could start working on the timing for the half stop feel.
Of course at this point you might need to move the 6 lower pull rod to a different changer hole or bell crank. Which means you'll need to go back and return the split again.
It feels circular for sure but starting with the split seems like the best approach. |
