Hey Trey, I bought some solo tracks from John when he was alive and well back in 2011. My brother and I used to go to the convention in St. Louis to see him as well as various clubs he played. Such a great guy. First time I heard him in person was in '73 with Conway. They had a 4 piece band that was unbelievable. Conway played his own lead. I have some of my recordings using the tracks on YouTube. Just search Danny Kirby steel guitar and you can listen if you like. I love that Hughey stuff. Can't beat it!

Just now remember I removed the ones actually with the solo tracks. I left only the ones with rhythm guitar. I will find a couple and send them later. Sorry about that. But the ones that are there, I practiced using the solo tracks.

Hey Trey. I added one more in case you might want to hear another one of Hughey's tracks. This is a link to "I Just Destroyed the World". John did such a fabulous job on this Conway hit. That was so nice of him to release those tracks so us steel pickers could practice his style.

Here's another one I tried. Didn't do it much justice, but here it is. We're all having fun, right?

Hey, no problem Trey. We all get busy these days. Thanks to Larry as well for responding. I love having this forum where we can all share ideas. Here's another of Hughey's tracks I played with, called Sweet Memories. It's probably one of the best I heard John do. But wow, so many great ones he did. Enjoy.

I had to add another one. Hughey did such a wonderful rendition on this great song. I enjoyed playing with the tracks. Brings back old memories.

This is a fun steel number to do. Especially when using John Hughey's tracks. It helps to practice these songs so they sound decent at a live show. I was off in a few places, but oh well. Thanks for listening.

I get a lot of requests to play this Hughey instrumental. I still remember this Conway song when it came out in '83. Many of the DJs were making such praises for the steel guitar part. I really enjoyed using his tracks to make this recording. I hope you enjoy listening.

I've got 4 of John's CD's. One of them was autographed for me in person. Ms. Jean and John were some of the nicest and most graceful people I've met. I just checked - The web site is up and running.

Yes, you are right about that. John and Miss Jean were one of the nicest couples I have ever met. John did not mind taking the time to talk and even explain how he did certain licks. He was a true to heart steel player who really cared about his fans. We will all miss him. Thanks to Miss Jean for keeping his work and his memory alive. What a player!

Unfortunately, I don't think John Hughey put out an instrumental of Last Date for us steel pickers. If he did, I would sure love to find one. I remember when it came out I guess in '71. I made a bet with my father in law, steel picker Ed Wicker from Wink, Texas, that he finished this great Conway song with three beats on the end, not four. I was wrong! Cost me two steak dinners! One of my best friends, Randy Marshall, helped me to pick out a version of Last Date. I have had many many requests to play this instrumental. It's kinda laid back, but I hope you enjoy. Thanks for listening.
