I have 2 digital mixers, a Behringer X32 and an XR-18. Can I use 2 of the outputs from the XR-18 to feed into 2 channels of the X32 (safely)? I no longer have space enough to keep the drum kit in the same room as the X32 so haven't been able to record live drums since I moved to Florida 3 years ago. I could, if I wanted to invest in much longer cables but that would be costly and inconvenient.

What I have in mind is to use 2 sets of wireless units to transmit the drum mix from the XR18 to the X32.

Is there any possible problem with this setup? I ask because I am not knowledgeable about the signal levels involved.

Thanks in advance,
Ed

Ed,

You should be able to do what you want with no issues that I am aware of. Not sure about the wireless units that you are using, but a simpler solution could be going from the main outs of the XR-18 with mic cables to 2 inputs on the X32.

Turn the gain all the way down on the x32 and once you have the levels set on the xr-18 you can slowly increase the gain on the inputs on the x-32 although IMHO you probably won't have to use much if any at all.

I would try this first before going wireless just to make sure it works.

Just checked out the wireless units and I suggest you read the reviews to make sure that they will work in your application.

That's what I was thinking. I know I can do it with cables but don't really want to run 2 30-40ft. cables thru the house.

I have read reviews from people using these for keyboards to the mixer and from the mixer to earbuds but nothing about mixer to mixer.

I ordered 2 pair and they should arrive today. I'll start with just one in case I blow it up and save the other for use with a mic as intended. I actually ordered these units for use with microphones but started to consider the possibilities for use with a sub mixer. Another option is to use 4 of these to mic the entire kit (I'm using 8 mics now) and send direct to the X32.

Ed,

I can sure understand that you don't want cables running through the house for sure.

Some of the reviews of the units you bought had some criticism about the range and the fact that the reception had a lot of static if they were not in line of site.

Hopefully they work for you. Let me know how they work for you. It is a great idea.

Mark

Yeah there is one wall between the drum room and the mixer and I know it may be a problem but my cheap guitar wireless has no problem with it so it may work. I think my main concern is that the mixer output will overpower the wireless xmitter and burn it out or something. I guess my question is, "Are Mic and Line levels compatible"?

On the x32 if the input gain is all the way to the left I believe you are at line level. Keep the gain low on the xr-16 and I think you will be okay.

If you want to test it take a cd player or any other device that would have a line level output.

If your meters turn bright red; too hot, but I think you can do it. The trick is not to overload the input on the x32

I am very happy to announce that they work exactly like I wanted them to. The gain setting on the X32 ended up almost exactly the same as running the mic straight to the X32.
