Hi steelers,
I'm looking for a Fender Champ (not Champion) wiring diagram.
I'm going to rewire mine and I (only)found 1 diagram on this forum, which happens to be slightly different from the wiring of my Champ.
Being a pretty good solder, but far from technical, I wonder if the Champ can be wired the same as a Champion, or an equally single coil guitar, while keeping the same pups and pots, or is there only one way (fabric-wise) to rewire it.
Just don't know if I might damage things.
Thanx in advantage,

Frans

Thank you, Jack!
This is the diagram I already found on the forum but, just to experiment with different sounds, is this the only way to wire my Champ?
Can I wire it also like a Champion or any other single coil diagram, while using the pots and cap I already have?

Again, thankx for your answer!

There are multiple alternative wiring methods for a single-pickup with two controls. I've been pleased with the results of this Les Paul Junior style setup on instruments equipped with a P-90 style pickup:

Very satisfied with this one; I guess my sound (Champ) will certainly make progress with a P90.
Two things:
does the P90 fit in the Strat. casing (I don't wanna destroy the guitar)?
For now there's a vol.pot 250 K, and a tonepot 1 meg. Do I, for best result, also have to replace the tonepot in a 500 K?

A standard sized P-90 will not fit in stock Champ without extensive modification to the guitar body and/or the mounting plate. I'd advise against it. Most any Strat-style pickup should drop right in. My Studio Deluxe (basically a Champ with legs) has an aftermarket Strat blade-style pickup and it sounds great.

Pot and capacitor values are not set in stone. The recommended values shown in the diagrams above are generally considered to be satisfactory. Experimentation can yield widely varying results.

If you're satisfied with your Champ the way is is now, my advise would be the old cliche: if it ain't broke, don't fix it. There are lots of P-90 equipped lap steels available out there if you're interested in that sound, especially Gibson BR-9s. It's never a bad idea to have more than one lap steel.
