Fully cognizant this may be a shot in the dark, but does anyone possess a Century Deluxe with a serial number stamped on the back of the headstock? According to Andre Duchossoir's Gibson Electric Steel Guitars 1937-1965, there were only 20 shipped between 1956 and 1959. Gibson began stamping serial numbers on some lap steels after the Les Paul model was introduced in 1953. The two Century Deluxes I have seen do not have serial numbers. Do any of 'em?

Nobody here has one? Wow. Perhaps I'm in rarified company with two of 'em, after recently receiving this carcass that I plan to refinish, and am presently obtaining the parts to perform another resurrection. A repro stoptail bridge and a new Sentell P-90 pickup are on the way.

I can't help you with the serial number question but I've always been impressed with that model lap steel. - Great aesthetics. Good luck and show us your results. |

Me too. As nice as the blue Centurys from 1951 to 1955 sound, the Century Deluxe set the bar higher, in my opinion. The combination of its Les Paul-style stoptail bridge, and its pickup placement closer to the bridge, is a likely explanation:
