Above is the copedant from Jackson that is on my Maverick HD however I've been unable to locate string packs that feature a wound sixth string. |

Ernie Ball E-9 sets feature similar gauges with the exception of the 3rd string which is a .010. |

How does the wound 6th tone compare to a plain 20? How much extra travel is required to raise it to pitch? A plain 20 seems to have some strange overtones at times. I can’t tell if it’s a string issue or can it be dialed out with amp settings. |

In my experience, the tone of a wound 6th is a little fatter, a little darker, and a little softer in volume than a plain string.
It does required a little more travel versus a plain string. You may or may not have to move the raise rod on the bellcrank for the B-pedal (try to get there with the nylon nut first).
But if you lower the 6th a whole tone... that takes a lot of travel and you will almost certainly need to move the rod that handles that.
I love the tuning stability of the wound 6th. That's the big selling point. |

I actually prefer the tone of a .022w over a .020p, but it's hard to get the wound string to drop to F#. That's a very long pull. If you don't have that knee lever it's not a problem. You'll just need to change to a further hole in the bell crank to switch from plain to wound. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

I fixed that by going to .024W. It made the volume equal to the other strings, really balanced it all out. _________________ Mikey D... H.S.P.

Nice. On my gigging steel, I fixed the issue by raising the adjustable pole piece on the Tonealigner pickup.

Yip, 22 wound here too, the selling point as Tuck said, is tuning stability especially if you do lots of outdoors stuff. I have had no trouble lowering them a full tone drop on an old MSA and a newer Mullen, but you will need the quickest pull holes...however as a fan of a minimalist copedent i deleted that change. |
