Topic: Best way to hang lap steels on the wall? |

I've got 5 lap steels and I currently have them on floor stands. I need to free up some floor space and I'd like to hang them on the wall with a secure wall mount (don't want to hang them with a cord around the tuning pegs).
I was thinking a making a shelf with slots or compartments that the bottom of the steel could rest in and another fixture at the top which would hold the headstock.
I like something that is...
1. secure
2. as easy as possible
3. looks good
Any ideas?

If they’re guitar shaped and can be hung by the headstock/neck joint, stringswing makes this too:
If they’re console-shaped, setting them upright on the shelf idea, with 2 wood dowels per guitar spaced out wide enough on a horizontally mounted 1x4 to support the neck/headstock area should work and not look too bad after painting. The dowels would probably have to be about 2†long, just enough to prevent sideways movement of the instruments. The shelf could either be routed with a slot for the bottoms of the guitars to keep them from slipping or just glue and screw a strip of wood or something lengthwise onto the front of the shelf. |

Pick a string you rarely use. Take that tuner out........you already have the hole.

I was fortunate to have these adjustable shelves already in the house when we moved in. I have come to appreciate them for lap steel guitar storage very much.
The shelves are adjustable. I can store them in the case or without the case for quick access. It looks tidy too.
I would do this again. It would be quite easy to build.
