sold
After much contemplation I have decided to offer this 1975 Sho Bud Pro II which I recently restored , with the exception of the body which has been left with all of the natural years of wear. It tells an amazing story. I am told I am the 3rd owner, with the 2nd owner being the handler between 1 and 3.(me) I was told this Steel rested in the case for many years .
D10 , 2 up / 1 down with with 2 hole pullers.
Here is the restoration process , highly detailed . The guitar was totally dismantled, all components cleaned , lubed and reassembled, Including both changers and each of the 20 Grover Tuners. The body was cleaned and clear coated to prevent further checking.
Forum Thread restoration
https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=354715&highlight=
Please note, the body is full of checking and wear marks, it is not a brand new finished body. Underneath it is perhaps as good as the day it left the Sho Bud factory in 1975. Maybe better !
8 + 4 configuration ABC Emmons
E9th, E's on the left , RKR lowers 2 a whole tone, RKL raises 1 a whole tone and lowers 6. I will change that to raise 7 as many do not like lower 6 with raise 1.
C6th, 5 standard pedals, lower 3 on RKL.
Should you purchase this guitar please don't open the case and say " Oh Lord the body is a natural relic, I wasn't told this , I was ripped off " Case is reasonable and functional. Steel plays great and has a great Bright Sho Bud tone. A beauty brought back to life, displaying 45 years of work duty.
Sound file, just to prove it works !

Please PM with further questions
I am in Charlotte NC and am willing to drive part way to meet and avoid shipping and shipping cost.

Johnie, perhaps the best sounding Sho Bud I have ever owned, which is probably 7 or 8 thru the years . The natural wear/ patina is not for everyone. And you're right, most would jump at an old Telecaster that played great and had natural wear !
I own 2 x 52RI's , one is an 89 the other an 88. I always laugh, as the 89 has wear, dings ,marks scratches etc, the more beat up it gets, the value goes up., this was my go to guitar for 20 years while the 88 is Pristine / MINT , If I ding that one the value goes down ! Go figure ! _________________ Emmons L-II , Fender Telecasters, B-Benders , Eastman Mandolin ,

NO , NOT RE-PAINTED BLACK , is that the question ? its the stock Sho Bud factory finish/color from 1975. No dumb questions.
My very first Sho Bud, purchased in 1975, was a Black Pro III. Pretty much the exact same guitar shy the wood necks. _________________ Emmons L-II , Fender Telecasters, B-Benders , Eastman Mandolin ,

It is restored , fully restored ,with the body left intact. Would you restore the body on an old Telecaster ?
Preference, sometimes we are erasing history. Theres plenty of new ,pristine instruments out there, this isn't one of them , and its also not $3500 but it IS fully restored.
Make an offer, I'll restore the body for you. But it won't be $2200 shipped ! _________________ Emmons L-II , Fender Telecasters, B-Benders , Eastman Mandolin ,

Tony, I think you've made it very clear what you've done and why - you've created a fully-functional museum piece, the best of both.
BTW, I haven't spotted a copedant anywhere. I guess knowledgeable types will just know, but I'm curious what the standard setup was then. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

Ian thx, I detailed the setup in the initial post, at the top. The guitar is setup as it was when I received it which is assumed to be the factory setup. There are no other empty bellcranks waiting for a pull rod .
The only changes I made were moving both E's to the left leg and I am dropping 6 on the RKL rather than raise 7. Yes this can be viewed as a conflict , dropping 6 with raise 1 but is easy to change . Its also very easy to AVOID the conflict while playing. Dropping 6 is one of my primary pulls. Also overused !
There is a good bit of interest for this Steel, lots of room for someone should they decide to take it apart and re-do the body, something I don't want to do on this Instrument. OR maybe they will enjoy it as it is, look at it and wonder where its been the past 45 years. How easy it would be to erase its history with a new modern finish.
I can't say if there was a standard setup back then. I purchased a new PRO III in 1975, , it was the same as this guitar is now ( E's on left leg) . Raise 1 was a half step and raise 7 were on the Pro III.
The Steel had two pending opportunities both of which fell thru for various reasons. Someone will grab it at a nice price and have a great restored Sho Bud. And then even Bob will be happy !
When I play this Steel I listen to it, I don't look at it ! It sings ! There are no DINGS or blemishes on the fretboard.
Oh yeah, the why am I moving it ?
I have my eye on an old 1 up 1 down Professional in need of full restoration. _________________ Emmons L-II , Fender Telecasters, B-Benders , Eastman Mandolin ,

i love this guitar, and i really like the fact that the underside and changer were restored, but not the body. i had an ldg with the same mechanism and i miss it. i sold it so i could buy a d10...sometimes i wish something like this had been available at the time. very cool. |
