it sounds good, just wondering
what you guys use? Thanks

I use a Telonics 84PW and really like it.
Wouldn't mind trying the X10 some time, though.

I have a Tonealigner in my Rains right now, and it sounds very good. I used an Emmons single coil in it for awhile and slightly prefered that, but I felt the need to have a steel with a humbucker, so the Tonealigner went back in it.

Appreciate it. Paul, did it make it
sound like an emmons ? Smile

The Emmons single coil in the Rains sounded very close to my push-pull Emmons, also with single coils. I have no experience with a LeGrande, but I bet a Rains and a LeGrande would sound very similar. I would not have gone to the Tonealigner except I was getting a pronounced 60 cycle hum at one location with the single coil. Most places it was fine.

I too, have a Tonealigner in my Rains and it sounds really good. A good thing about Tonealigners, is you can adjust the pole pieces and really get them balanced. Nice to get the third string up a little.

Do they still make Tonealigners? Now that Jerry Wallace has passed, what is everyone doing for single coils now? Is someone else still making those?

Perhaps because of this thread I broke out the Rains with the Tonealigner. Man, that's a good sounding steel!!

Dean, Jim Pitman sold the Tonealigner pickup business to Bob Hofner so I think he is making them. I believe a guy that used to wind pickups for Emmons still makes the buy I don't recall his name. I believe the Emmons single coil is the best ever. I think Billy Knowles could have this information.

David Hartley used a 10-1 in his Rains guitars and they sounded outstanding. Check out his clips on YouTube.
