Topic: Rittenberry pickups...what are you guys using? |

Hey all,
I’m curious to see what pickups other folks are using in their Rittenberry guitars? I know it’s only been a few days, but I’m really struggling with the 705’s in the Prestige I just received. I can’t seem to get the highs under control. I’m very interested to see what others have in their guitars.

| I'm using a Telonics 409 that I think gives a little thicker sound & have adjusted the 2nd & 3rd strings to suppress the "harshness above the 12th fret. At this point I am happy with it. |

| I don't have my Rittenberry any more, but it had a Telonics 206 in it that had been installed when Gary made the guitar --- sounded great! |

| I've owned 2 Rittenberry Sd-10 guitars, both with 705 pickups. Both sounded great to me. You might take a look at your amp settings, If you cut the mids a lot, maybe try turning them up some. Especially if you are not using a Peavey amp. |

My friend, it’s not the guitar, it’s obviously the amp you are using. My 2 Rittenberry Prestige guitars sound great with 705’s. I’d put my guitars up against anything. Including push pulls!!

Hey guys,
Thanks for the replies. After talking to a couple forum members about their Ritt’s with 705’s, I think I should’ve titled this thread “how are your 705’s set for heightâ€. I’m running a SFTR head into a Double T 15†and I run the mids totally off. I’m going to do some experimenting this week with the height of the pickup. I’m going to start with the treble side three quarters ( 25 cent pieces ) plus a little and three quarters on the base end.
Where are you guys running your 705’s, at the height set by the factory or did you adjust them lower?

| Forrest if what you have is a Silver Face Twin Reverb try popping up the mids to around 8. Try your lows on 5 and your treble on 3.5. On tube amps mids can be your friend. |

Hey Everybody,
Thanks for all the replies. After adjusting the pickup down, it sounds much better and I’m a ton happier. Still may try a different pickup or two, but at least it’s set at a good starting point. |

I have a Ritt with BL705 pickup. I was getting all these highs and mids out of my guitar. Turned out the pickup was bad. I got a new one and things sound great. Warm fat sounds that you should expect from the 705. I could take a screw driver and touch one of the blades which caused the screw driver to grab onto the pickup. And then it sounded good for a while and then the highs and mids would kick back in until I tried the screwdriver trick again.

Original Emmons single coil. Love it.
Mine had a 705 in it when I got it. Gary swears by them. I think the 705 is optimized for solid state amps.
I use tube amps. I like SCs much better. My Rit is very close to my Push Pull in sound. In some ways better. The Rit is among the very best.

With the bass and treble both off and the Mids on full I was told the overall response was flat. Cut those highs and cranks the mid, let us all know.

Forest, I don’t remember the Ohms exactly but it is in a normal range, between 17 and 20. It’s not a very early one when they were down around 12. I bought it used from Jim Palenscar and he usually has a few on hand at Steel Guitars of North County.
For me, the 705 is too punchy, especially in the midrange. I don’t know if that could be part of what you hear.
I’ve sometimes been testing a steel, enjoying the sound, and am surprised when thy tell me it’s a 705. Then I realize...solid state amp. It’s a better pairing than a 705 and a Fender tube amp, to my ears.
Also, TR’s can be unruly to dial in. This is coming from someone who grew up playing a SFTR, my main amp for about 5 years. At the right volume they are great, but some are tough to get the settings right. I’ve never had this difficulty with any other Fender amps. Something about that power level and the mid knob. Try this...Vol 2 3/4, Bass 2 3/4, Treble 4ish, Mids around 3 or so. Move that knob around. Reverb on 3.
Oh, if you can hook up a different speaker, that’s another angle to try.
