Hi- first post here. I've been playing guitar for over 50 years, have about 15 electrics, 5 acoustics, four basses, four dulcimers, and a banjo (all left-handed). I've never played lap or steel (although I have one electric set up for slide) and to scratch the long-standing lap steel itch I just bought a Morrell maple 8-string.

While waiting for it to arrive I'm looking over instruction options. The Cindy Cashdollar DVD, the Fretboard Roadmaps book, and the George Boards material look the most promising so far. Suggestions? Thanks!

I'd say six vs eight string is going to be less a deciding factor than other things. What style of music do you want to play? Any favorite players whose style you want to develop your playing towards?

Lessons with Troy is a good source of online lessons. I take Skype lessons with Alan Akaka (but I'm learning Hawaiian style mainly).

I was originally most interested in C&W and Western Swing so I got Cindy's DVD's and felt they were an excellent starting place (and not bad to revisit now and then for a refresher).

There are some cool lessons from Eddie Rivers on YouTube. Western Swing Rules, there is a series of them and they're very good.
