Does anyone out there have any information regarding Rio Lap-steels? I know they're vintage instruments, I was just wondering whether or not they had a good reputation?
Thanks in advance for any input. Stay safe and healthy!

I had never heard of Rio lap steels before this. I'm guessing this is European only and was never imported into the USA. http://riogitarrenguitares.free.fr probably has as much information as there is, but it's in French.

There's one for sale (quite reasonably) in Italy. Shipping almost as much as the price! (If I were to buy it, and I'm not, my wife would make me keep it in the garage for a week given where it's coming from..Lavagna is in the north...)

I have to say, they are very pretty guitars. I have no idea how they sound but very fetching design...the pickup alone! Love the CC style hexagon shape with the wood top.

That's actually the guitar that's tempting me, Nic.
There's just something about it that keeps calling to me. Shipping is obviously way cheaper to Ireland, and we're in the European Union, so no import duty.
As far as putting it in the garage....where do you think I'm typing this from?

Alas! Heartbreaking update on the Rio. I emailed the shop to arrange payment, he e-mailed back to tell me there was an error in the Reverb listing. 155 euro was the shipping price to the USA, somehow that ended up as the sale price.
It's actually 1350 euro if anyone is interested!!!!(plus 155 euro shipping lol!)

So in other words, they want to keep it. I wish them luck.

Actually Brad, you make a lot of sense. It's an interesting old guitar, but I think the wrong price was actually nearer the mark!

Another case of someone believing that “rare” always equals “valuable”.
